The turnip needs rich soil and can be grown as an early or late crop. For early crops sow in drills 12 to 18 inches apart in spring. 0.5 ounce seeds covers 100 feet, thin to 3 inches. Late turnips are broadcast after an early crop is removed and store well for winter in cool banks or pits. They resist frost and can be interplanted between late corn or beans.
