American marines and Allied troops push the Germans back along the Marne sector near Torcy Le Port and Veuilly as forces contend for Bussaises Bouresches and Hill 204. British and French units seize Bligny while consolidating gains near Chateau Thierry, with German resistance tapering as Allied pressure increases.
American marines report successful second attack near Chateau Thierry as they reach all first hour objectives and push two miles on a three mile front. They seize Belleau wood region, clear ravine south of Torcy, and take prisoners including 100 in morning action. Several German officers are killed or captured amid intense fighting.
London June 7 Archibald S Hurd argues the latest German submarine frightfulness off the Atlantic coast is another defeat for Germany. He says it brings the American continent within the war area and forces tighter American resolve. He contends air bombing from subs is absurd and that America is best defended on this side of the Atlantic.

Atlanta June 7 Federal managers for railroads of the southern region were announced by regional director B L Winchell. Appointments effective June 8 and approved by director general W G McAdoo list E H Coapman for Southern Railway system and several lines, M Kittle for Illinois Central and affiliates, W L Mapother for Louisville and Nashville and affiliates, R V Taylor for Mobile and Ohio and Gulf lines, W A Winburn for Central of Georgia, and J H Young for Norfolk Southern with offices in Washington and Savannah Norfolk.
Washington reports April tax receipts show ordinary and war taxes totaling 93.7 million dollars while government expenses run about 50 million daily. Corporate and excess profits taxes brought in 127.6 million and individual income taxes 41.7 million, totaling 169.3 million from major sources.
A Moscow Telegraph dispatch reports a bitter clash in the Caucasus between the new Caucasian government and Turkish forces. More than 10,000 Armenians are said to have been massacred within two weeks as mobilization is ordered for men aged 19 to 42 and new Caucasian detachments gather in the Tiflis district.
Washington reports a May ship launching record with 71 hulls. Total deadweight tonnage reached 344 450 tons, including 39 steel hulls at 228 750 tons and 32 wood hulls at 115 700 tons.
The Victory Home company held its noon organization meeting with 40 directors elected to form the board. Officers will be elected this afternoon with a committee to appraise land offered in exchange for stock and report recommendations to the directors.

Belleau wood clears as Granges farm area falls, 270 prisoners taken including 10 officers, Mares wood edge reached, 100 plus prisoners captured by a single French regiment.
In the Cha teau Thierry sector American marines showed notable bravery as they pressed the attack. Wounded soldiers refused to retreat. Private Charles Ginsberg of Washington Georgia captured a German in a shell hole and spared his photos of ten children after finding the prisoner’s hidden weapons. An American corporal, two days behind enemy lines, crawled back to join the fight and helped secure the victory.
Benny Kauff, Giants outfielder, was ordered by his draft board to report for military service on June 24. The announcement came from Pomeroy, C., dated June 7.
German submarines strike near Virginia capes as officials warn raiders seek larger targets. The British steamer Harpathian was torpedoed 100 miles off the Virginia coast, sinking in minutes with 14 total victims. Survivors rescued by the Potomac reached an Atlantic port hospital after 26 hours adrift. 26 Chinese crew aboard.
