Norfolk, July 14 Special Commissioner Thomas H Willcox filed with Judge Waddill his report in the Appam case fixing 447000 as the damages due the owners of the British liner for its capture by a German raider and detention in a neutral port. The report also recommends 7000.17 from cargo sales be paid to Henry G Harrison master and that court costs of the inquiry be covered by the respondents.
Hartford, July 14. Mrs. Annie E. Archer Gilligan was found guilty of first degree murder by poison of Franklin R. Andrews on May 30, 1914. Andrews, an inmate of her Windsor home for elderly people, was poisoned. she is sentenced to hang November 6, 1917.
Vincent Astor has been commissioned an ensign in the United States Naval Reserve and is serving with the American Naval Patrol in British and French waters. His wife, Mrs. Astor, has gone to Paris for relief work and has visited a French port to see him.
Amsterdam July 14 Count Michael Karolyi leader of the Hungarian Independent party says a Budapest telegram places the German crisis on peace. He notes Czernin has declared readiness for peace without annexations and emphasizes democratization of every country as a prerequisite.
Census Bureau data show June consumption of 575,122 running bales and 83,714 lint bales, up from last year. Eleven months end June totals and state figures are listed, with spindles active at 33,463,946 and imports 281,520 bales for the year.
The food administration notes April exports surged from 11 392 788 to 14 233 013 bushels of wheat, a 52 percent rise over the pre war nine month average. Beef exports climbed from 22 295 972 to 48 211 592 pounds, while sugar rose from 103 486 176 to 92 283 738 pounds in April though nine month totals had shown a large gain. Fish exports fell from a nine month average of 16 122 474 pounds to 7 544 877 in April.
