Edward H R Green of New York and Terrell Texas is to wed Miss Mabel E Harlow of Highland Park Illinois today per Mrs George H Campbell. license records list Howard H R Green as 48 and Miss Mabel B Harlow as 47. Harlow noted for wealth and charity work in Chicago and New York.
Indictments against three coal companies in the government restraint of trade suit were dismissed by Federal Judge Grubb. Six other defendants had their indictments reinstated after preliminary dismissal, leaving about half of the originally charged firms under indictment.
Fred Harper, a Lynchburg lawyer, was elected Grand Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Boston. Atlantic City was chosen as the next convention city. Harper defeated Jo Rena W Stevenson 1023 to 3205. He is a Wilmington native and connected to local families.
State Department dispatch reports Liberia severing diplomatic relations with Germany in the war's aftermath. Liberia cites veiled German threats as a justification and says relations are broken despite efforts to protect German interests.
Washington July 10 The House Rivers and Harbors bill totaling 27 023 000 was reported to the Senate by the Commerce Committee an increase of 130 000 over House passed appropriations.
Governor Bickett and thousands of visitors are expected in Goldsboro when the Second Regiment North Carolina National Guard holds a patriotic parade at noon. The governor will review troops from Kennon Hotel balcony while the regiment possibly marks its last North Carolina parade before joining a divisional training camp. The march starts at Camp Royster two miles north of Goldsboro with engineering companies A and B and support wagons and air equipment.
Associated Press reports Washington July 10 that the Federal Trade Commission answers Senate on relief efforts by citing its recommendation for government power to take over newsprint manufacture and distribution. It reiterates the need for more authority while noting a contemplated formal complaint was dropped to avoid embarrassing the Justice Department which had begun anti trust prosecutions against manufacturers.
Central News dispatch from Copenhagen reports German submarines sink the Norwegian steamships Henrik 3829 tons gross and Lovvakken. crews saved. Victoria II 2798 tons is also sunk en route to the United States, with one lifeboat carrying several crew members lost.
Richmond July 10. Seaboard Air Line freight clerks who walked out yesterday returned to work after a conference with L. R. Goulder freight agent. An agreement raised wages by an average of 10 percent, preventing disruption of freight traffic in the city.
