Norfolk Virginia reports W. J. Wats a well known citizen of Nurneyville shot himself in the breast dying from the self inflicted wound. Despondent over ill health authorities say the tragedy occurred tonight in his home.
London reports the British steel screw steamer Longhurst, owned by London and Northern 8S. S. Company Ltd, has been sunk. Details are sparse due to the United Press dispatches.
Confederate veterans may relocate their reunion from Washington to a southern city after the finance committee asked southern cities to cover expenses. Strong protests labeled the move a humiliation have followed in Mobile. General Harrison may call off the Washington event with Adjutant General Mickle predicting an amicable settlement.
A 6000 strong demonstration of women and children marched from Rutgers Square to Madison Square and Fifth Avenue demanding lower bread and potato prices. Governor Whitman met with officials and considered an emergency move to allow city sale of food to curb costs as protests continued across Manhattan and the Bronx.

Durham North Carolina February 24 George Whitted premier left fielder for the Philadelphia Nationals states he will not wear a Quaker uniform this season without a higher salary. Whitted has four years in the major leagues including two world series appearances and has become a fan idol.
Paris reports say a dense fog off the coast will delay the American steamers Rochester and Orleans, due in Bordeaux tonight or tomorrow morning after racing from New York. Both 12 knot freighters are first American ships in the German war zone trade, with bets on which reaches Bordeaux first.
Halifax Nova Scotia February 24 The Frederik VIII failed to sail tonight for Copenhagen as expected leaving the ship tied up at Halifax harbor with no indication of a move.
Francisco Villa orders simultaneous assaults on Juarez and Chihuahua with Villista forces converging near both cities. A Chihuahua battalion reaches the outskirts of the city while U.S. agents monitor movements and expect a clash. Villa leads about a thousand men north toward Casas Grandes from Bustillos.
News from Atlanta and London recounts a rising anger in Holland over German submarine warfare after the February 22 torpedoings. Reports detail Dutch casualties and shipping losses, with seven Dutch ships sunk and ten total in the war zone, amid assurances of safety up to the 2nd.
The Feb 24 Mississippi tornado killed two people. Ernest N. Morris was struck by lightning beside a shed near Purvis, and a Black man near Georgetown died. Georgetown suffered major damage including a destroyed Negro schoolhouse. six children and a teacher injured. Mt. Olive saw the largest store and a saw mill wrecked.
A Birmingham report details a Friday tornado sweeping Central Alabama with widespread destruction. Hollins schoolhouse collapsed injuring most of its 52 children. Stewartville and Midway reported fatalities. Wetumpka Masonic Hall destroyed and property damage widespread. Over 100 injured. unconfirmed fatalities near New Bern and Selma.
New York February 24 Jim Flynn Pa belo has been matched to meet Bob Devere of Kansas City next Thursday in a scheduled ten round bout.
Holland voices strong indignation after seven Dutch ships are sunk in the German submarine zone. Germany had earlier said Dutch ships were shielded until February 22 but could not guarantee safety. Sunk vessels include Zaandijk Noorderdijk Jacinta Menado Emland Guamsterland and Bendoeng.
