A catastrophic blast rocked Halifax when an ammunition ship and another vessel collided at the pier. The explosion wrecked buildings, damaged the waterfront, and left many dead or injured. Relief trains and medical staff rushed to the scene as communications were disrupted.
The 1910 census counted over one million former subjects who had sworn allegiance to other nations and were denaturalized. The University of Wisconsin board of regents rescinded the 1909 conferment of the Doctor of Laws degree on Count von Bernstorff, former German ambassador, reported by Associated Press. Also: London reports British shipping losses 16 merchantmen sunk by mines or submarines in the past week.
