The National Democratic Convention gathered in Cincinnati to nominate presidential and vice presidential candidates. The Baltimore Vazers report a Republican presidential candidate is heavily besmirched by past transgressions. They propose a bite sized insult by altering his surname to Gar bage field, authored by P W M as a suggestion.
Special despatch from Cincinnati June 23 1880 reports New York voting as a unit for Payne with Bayard strong on early ballots. Tammany delegates excluded. Hall filling as convention opens with Randall banner cheer. If Payne cannot be nominated by ballot three or four the convention may adjourn to tomorrow.
The Woman Suffrage National Association presented a petition urging equal rights for individuals. In Cincinnati on June 23 the credentials committee reported against New York and Pennsylvania contestants and Tammany delegates. A minority report favored admitting Tammany and granting 20 votes while regular delegates cast 50. The majority report was adopted amid cheers.
In Arlanta Georgia on June 22 1880 the Constitution reports that Mr Tildens letter has caused a complete revolution in Georgia. Those who previously spoke ill of the Sage of Gramercy Park now reverse stance and favor his nomination after reading the letter.
