A late evening meeting of the Democratic committee adjourned after long hearings and procedural delays. Witnesses were examined on alleged irregularities. votes and motions circulated, but no decisive action was taken and the matter was postponed to a future session.
Delaware City June 22 A mysterious and suspicious bundle was observed Tuesday by Andrew Bowen Hetty Tagend and a companion near Port Penn Pier. The drifting object and strong stench prompted their approach but the bundle was towed ashore and nothing more has been seen. The scene remains under watch for further developments.
Delawane hosts a July Fourth celebration with a street parade and a church strawberry festival. Delawane City appoints a special police force after several late-night fights. In nearby Frankin, Major Layton visits, and a big Fourth event with boats, crabbing, dancing, clam bake, and fireworks is planned with Georgetown band involvement.
Middletown notes report a severe hail storm damaging crops and property including a stable struck by lightning killing two colts. On Tuesday morning fishermen found an unknown brig or brigantine in three fathoms of water at low tide near Murr Ledge on the Maine coast. It is believed to have been lost last winter. Several arrests were made of men suspected of wrecking the Johnston Harvester Work at Menor aertreise York. Another man, Freeman Board, is now known to have perished in the building.
