Ohio Democratic Platform and Nominated Ticket

The Ohio Democratic State Convention met at the Opera House with full county representation. L. Vance was temporary chairman. ticket: William Allen for Governor, Samuel F. Cary for Lieutenant Governor, Thomas Q. Ashburn or Avitor Greene for Supreme Judge, Thomas E. Powell Attorney-General, H. E. O'Hagan Board of Public Works. The platform denounces Republican policies, calls for currency reform, church-state separation, and opposes land or money grants to railroads. a large ratification meeting followed. A. T. Walling was named chairman, Joseph Gutzweiler secretary, with Gov. Allen and others addressing the crowd.

Battle of Bunker Hill Celebrated in West Chester

West Chester marked the hundredth anniversary with a grand military and civic demonstration led by the Centennial Minute Men. A sunrise salute by Griffin's battery woke the town, flags fluttered, and business paused as thousands joined a procession to Horticultural Hall for an oration by John J. Pinkerton and a poem by Edward P. Needles.

New York Snake Dealer Bit by Eight Foot Boa

Theodore F. Kirsten of 98 Chatham Street, a New York animal dealer, was bitten by an eight foot boa constrictor at Kennedy and Mooney’s Roosevelt Front street home. The snake seized his arm, lashing about the room before Kirsten could choke it off. This is his second boa encounter following a 22 foot serpent incident last summer.

Grasshoppers Destuction Pays Farmers Big Sums in Minnesota

Blue Earth county paid 15000 dollars for grasshopper destruction at 1.60 a bushel with traps hauled by horse power. Farmers report catching five to twenty bushels daily and 1500 bushels buried in a trench at Manke. A meeting with Blue Earth Brown Nicollet and LeSueur counties approved resolutions urging continued hopper destruction to save crops.

Miners Sentenced in Three Classes at CLEARFIELD

In Clearfield Pennsylvania on June 15 thirty two striking miners were found guilty of conspiracy and riot and sentenced by Judge Arvis. The first class including John Joice John J Maloney Ralph Parks George McGowan Others received costs a 25 dollar fine and one year imprisonment. The second class of thirteen were fined 25 dollars and jailed sixty days while the third class of thirteen had sentences suspended as they were deemed led by the first two groups.
