A Miserable Man Tries and Fails at Self Destruction

A middle aged man sought laudanum at a western city drugstore to end his life after a period of despair. The druggist, weighing the danger, supplied a nonlethal substitute. The man later disclosed his plan to his wife and doctors, who confirmed he had not ingested real poison. He now regains his resolve and curses the druggist while awaiting further news as authorities review the case.

Cape May Leads With Summer Attractions And Excursions

Cape May showcases a grand program from June 30 through early July with operatic and promenade concerts, a 100-member orchestra, and a 500-chorister extension. A State Fencibles visit on June 30 includes a dress parade and a grand afternoon concert, plus nighttime hops on the new pavilion lawn. A select Wilmington excursion departs June 30 for a 1.75 dollar round trip, returning by July 5, as fireworks and further events are planned for the week.

Lynch Law Victims Stir Miamisong Lynching In Twenty Years

Across the town of Miamis, Wisconsin, a eight year old girl named Nettle Lyons was assaulted near the railroad. A vigilante group captured Toll Warner from Alpena Michigan and hanged him at the railroad crossing after a lengthy crowd gathered at the jail. The girl identified Warner as her attacker, and the town fears the suspect’s innocence while awaiting her recovery.
