A county officer bids farewell in a sudden leave-taking. The report notes the abrupt exit from duties and hints at forthcoming official statements or replacements as the community awaits further details.
Mrs. Brooks reports her husband Javes ie Brooks vanished after 9 PM from Philadelphia, after leaving home at 1907 Market Street. He spoke of business and planned to travel possibly to Delaware or beyond, leaving no clear destination. Neighbors recall him as a content, domestic man. family fears foul play though he sent instructions and promised funds.
Council sat through a heated session debating the Eleventh ward contest and the legality of Newall and Macy’s election. A finance report set the 1882 83 tax rate and projected appropriations while street repairs, curb work, and street lighting requests were acted upon.
The wedding of Rev John B Clemson of Claymont to Miss Hannah of West Chester drew many Wilmington friends and lineal descendants of George Washington’s brother. Clergy and ushers included Rev Jefferis of Delaware College and Rev Murphy of Claymont with Prof J Max Mueller musical director. A lavish reception followed at the couple’s residence with elaborate floral decor and lawn feast in Augustine’s style.
The Maryland Board of Public Works named state directors for multiple railroads including Baltimore & Ohio, Worcester & Somerset, Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, and Philadelphia & Baltimore Central. It approved Baltimore & Ohio's plan to construct a drawbridge over the Patapsco River connected to the Western Bridge with a 15 foot draw.
A New Yorker on Pilot Knob at Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga admires the valley and pays tolls. He extols the view while a guileful guide extorts a tip, quips about 50 cent orations, and a tense moment ends with threats of throwing the guide off the knob.
Arrangements completed in Eph Morris saloon for a prize bout between Bryan Campbell of Leadville and Thomas Walling of Denver to occur within fifty hours of June 26 within 100 miles of burg. Richard K. Fox of the Police Gazette will arrive June 25 to observe. Also notes Kentucky colored men convention in Lexington and other regional meetings.

Meanwhile Parliament debates the Repression bill with disputes on progress and timing before moving to other agendas. In New York, debates over Castle Garden funding raise alarms about closing the facility and reviving illicit emigration practices.
The Malley defense called Yale Medical School obstetrics professor Dr. A to challenge drowning theories. He cited handling of bodies from Norwalk disasters and Paris drownings, questioned sand in the gullet, and discussed arsenic poisoning signs and a proposed preservative solution. Cassidy withdraws as defense attorney amid reports of internal tensions and the case closing for the defense next day.
Rev Father Houck private secretary to Bishop Gilmour was ejected from the Leader office after an editorial dispute. He sought an explanation and manuscript from editor Mr Cowles who ordered him out and reportedly assisted him to leave, prompting an arrest warrant for assault and battery.
In Cleaveland and nearby towns strikers appoint men as special patrolmen but city authorities decline the request. Two quasi officers arrest a non union worker Thomas Blythe for concealed weapon. Blythe is acquitted but the arresting men face assault charges. Blythe later beaten by a striker gang. Other regions report few strike actions and amicable resolutions in Phoenixville and Stanton colliery.
The northbound passenger train on the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago line derailed near White River bridge, the rear coach jumped the track and pulled the rest down the embankment. About 35 to 40 passengers were rescued, all injured to some degree.
