The National Medical Association awarded a gold medal to the author on March 31, 1876, recognizing notable contributions to medical science. The announcement notes the honor was conferred for distinguished work in the field.
Gen. Grant was honored with the freedom of the city of London at the Guildhall. About 800 guests including government officials and American consuls attended a luncheon. a gold casket bearing Washington’s Capitol and the Guildhall entrance was presented to him.
