Kill by a sickman an attempt to arrest excise violator
Patrick Regan a 44 year old saloon keeper at 404 Madison street was shot and killed at 11 last night by police officer John W. Smith of the Thirteenth precinct while attempting to arrest Regan for excise law violations. Regan seized a cavalry sword when confronted, and Smith fired in self defense. Smith, 21, was locked up at Delancey street station awaiting arrest on a charge of murder.

A Norris Hose delegation from Norristown Pa visited Wilmington yesterday to invite the Friendship Fire Company to visit on September 15 for the dedication of their new engine house. Committee members and club fellows were received with a dinner at the sea Hotel and the party departed thanking Wilmington for its hospitality. The Norris Hose’s new engine house measures 100 feet 4 inches long 33 feet 8 inches deep and 51 feet high with three stories and modern improvements.
