A late session of the city board saw numerous nuisance abatement actions and property cleanups ordered. Officers reported hydrant and alley repairs, paving in several blocks, and deposits for garbage removal authorized, while a controversial appointment stirred local politics and racial tension.
At a special Board of Education meeting the plan to add two rooms on two floors behind School No 4 and modify the old building was discussed. Carswell explained three plans. plan No 1 for rear additions was authorized for specifications, plan No 8 for changes in the old building was adopted, with cost estimates to be prepared, and a separate economical proposal by Morrow was requested. The session also noted water supply work for the Almshouse, a Pennsville body wash ashore possibly Dennis D. Gallagher, and various local notices including lodge elections and philanthropic bequests.
The New Castle council held its regular monthly meeting with all members present.
