City Council debates sewer and street repairs amid storm

Last evening the City Council held a lengthy session with President Lichtenstein as storms interrupted business. They discussed a proposed sewer on Ninth street between Monroe and Adams, estimated at 700 dollars, and a repaving plan for Shipley and Front streets with costs around 140 dollars. Committee reports, labor payrolls, petitions for lamps and telegraph poles, and a contentious board salary vote marked the lengthy meeting.

Liquor Sale Case Jolts New York Saloon Error

In a New York case a bartender James Ross was fined 25 dollars for selling liquor to a minor in Thirty Night Street near Avenue. The court held the sale was to the boy, not the agent, affirming that preventing such sales to minors is the statute’s aim. The piece combines the decision with moral commentaries and unrelated notices about Reading Railroad scrip.
