Colossal Balloon to be the Caloasus by King in Boston
The Boston Advertiser reports Berton aeronaut Mr. King has spent five months building the Caloasus, the largest balloon yet in America with 191 foot circumference and 100000 cubic feet capacity. It will be a double-car craft, the top for observers, the lower for passengers and ballast, weighing 1400 to 2400 pounds and lifting about 7000 pounds with hydrogen. The project uses 12000 yards of Lyman cloth, twenty four stays, and oil varnish for sealing. Previous balloons listed include General Grant, Queen of the Air, Star-spangled Banner, and a 65 feet passenger craft. A notable earlier ascent carried eight passengers seventy-five miles.
