Reported plan for a branch of the P W & B Railroad from Elkton along the Little Elk valley to the Providence paper mill seven miles north of Elkton. The line would pass Marley and Cecil mills and may extend to Oxford. Investors include G W Onildy of the Philadelphia Ledger, I D Carter of Cecil mill, and Providence mill owners. A preliminary survey may follow a favorable report by Edward Larkin after a site review with Harry Carter and Lovejoy.
A June 3 1880 Pomona Grange meeting in New Castle County adopts unanimously resolutions opposing nonpledged candidates for Delaware General Assembly and seeking state funded fertilizer analysis. The group calls for cooperation with Kent and Sussex District Granges and farmer unity. Also reports an attempted railroad train wreck near Blue Ball crossing with a faulty sleeper caused by unknown miscreants. train passed safely.
An itinerant stencil carver identified as Thomas Henan from Wilmington entertained Elkton residents during the week. He attempted to take orders but soon drank heavily, losing $130 of his funds while carrying $580. He claimed $8,000 on deposit with Drexel & Co. in Philadelphia, which proved false. Justice Lewis fined him one dollar plus costs for drunkenness. after paying, he departed Elkton.
The Democratic County Executive Committee will meet this afternoon at the United States Hotel to select judges and inspectors for the nomination election for Sheriff and Coroner on Saturday. The Republican County Executive Committee meets this afternoon at the Lincoln Club Rooms. Tonight Republicans vote to form a City Executive Committee.
Lt Col William F Raynolds in the Fourth Lighthouse district received many proposals on Thursday for removing the buoy shed at the mouth of the Christiana river and placing it at Cherry Island Flats ranges near the front beacon. The proposals were sent to the department in Washington for award of the contract in a few days.
The strawberry festival at First Presbyterian Church that began Wednesday closes tonight with moderate attendance. The Bethany church benefit festival, opened Monday in City Hall, also ends tonight and any unsold articles will be auctioned.

The Office of Street Commissioner in Wilmington Delaware invites sealed proposals until 7 40 p m on Thursday May 20 1880 for grading and paving the bed of Second Street between Orange and Pall Streets. Work includes grading depth requirements gutter bricks stone pavement two rammings sand joints and all materials. Completion within fifteen days or daily forfeit five dollars. Bonds required five hundred dollars for performance and one hundred dollars for good faith. Proposals to Louis P Lynn Street Commissioner.
