Workmen clearing snow from the Rising Sun branch of the Wilmington City Railway found George Crumpston of Rising Sun half buried in a snow drift near Mt. Salem M E Parsonage yesterday morning around 10. He was unconscious, later partly recovered at the Rising Sun depot. He had no use of his legs from the knees down and said he started work at 6 am and became trapped overnight. He suffered no pain but remained immobilized throughout yesterday.
Nat McKay of Philadelphia has returned from Demerara where he oversaw months of work on a large market house. Edge Moor Iron Company supplied the ironwork. The structure is nearly finished and McKay left workers there, including several from Philadelphia, as locals endure deep winter while Demerara swelters at about ninety degrees.
A Wilmington Delaware couple traveling to West Chester on Christmas Day via carriage became stuck in a heavy drift near Darlington's Corner. After freeing the vehicle they chose to return to West Chester and await a better opportunity to continue home.
John 8 Traphagen, longtime cigar and shoe store owner in this city, died last night of paralysis in Christiana where he had kept a hotel for about a year. He was well known locally and a large circle of friends mourn his passing. He belonged to Lafayette Lodge No. 1d A F and A M of this city.
Delaware College expects a large influx of new students for the next term starting January 5 1881. Nineteen have already entered this term and the faculty anticipate a strong rise in enrollment as the four years course takes effect.

A Ohio party seeks a Hatfield rolling mill and sixty acres to start a stoneware pottery in West Grandywine Chester county VA.
The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Poor was held at the Alushouse this morning. During sessions the board was visited by the Trustees of the Poor of Delaware County Pennsylvania for a visit of inspection.
The Chas E. Cockey farm on Kent Island Queen Annes county totaling 862 acres sold to Dr Stephen E B Ford at 34 dollars per acre. W S Price sold his 100 acre Kent Island farm to Alfred J Barkers of Philadelphia at 46 dollars per acre.
The Christmas program at the First Presbyterian Church featured a fine musical and literary display despite poor weather. Gifts were given to pastors and teachers, with candy, fruit, and books for several attendees. Grace Church also held successful Christmas exercises with recitations, solos, and carols led by Prof C B Rhonda. Personal notes report Oxford painter John M Johnson moving to Wilmington to join Harlan and Hollingsworth for ship training, recently marrying an Oxford woman.
In Unionville a blaze ripped through a large building on Edward Chandler's property while he lay dead in the house. The fire consumed the 5ester house carriage house bog house and wash house near the barn, with the family experiencing great distress as the flames menaced the home.
Yesterday morning a sleigh crossing the Wilmington and Northern Railroad at Sager's Run was struck by a backing engine. The sleigh was shattered, two occupants were thrown clear, an elderly woman suffered a severe head injury, and the horse bolted.
Michael McLaughlin of Philadelphia was struck by a speeding New York express while crossing the Lamokin depot track. Warned by a bystander not to cross, he continued, was struck mid track, knocked about twenty feet, sustaining a deep facial wound a severely damaged hand and head. Death was instantaneous.

David Jenkins forced entry to a festival at E Zion colored church last night. He drew a revolver and fired at David H. Brooks through the door, missing all. Jenkins was arrested on a warrant by Sergeant Whelan and to have a mayoral hearing this evening.
L Theodore Esling of the Newark Ledger is critically ill with pneumonia at the Deer Park Hotel in Newark. Recovery not expected. no Ledger issue was published last week due to his condition.
Snow began again around eight o clock last night and continued this morning, adding several inches to the heavy fall that has not yet abated. Residents tire of clearing pavements only to make room for more snow.
Nantucket December 27 The celebrated lawyer Charlies OConor has ceded New York citizenship and become a Massachusetts resident. He now plans to stay, brings his Fort Washington household, and writes a law treatise as his final professional effort. He has retired his New York office but will advise by correspondence. His long, vigorous life on Nantucket inspires locals.
London dispatch reports the arraignment of Irish Nationalist MPs in Dublin before Lord Chief Justice May and a mixed bench. The crowd and officials describe intense excitement as the trial continues. The same day Lord May retires from presiding and the jury, seven Catholics and one Quaker, is expected to convict. The Admiralty orders further troop transports to Natal and Fifteenth Hussars move from India.
February or March is best to sow orchard grass seed in this latitude. For seed plant, a bushel per acre. for pasture, one and a half to two bushels plus a half gallon of clover per acre. In darkness near Ballinakill County Galway two shots were fired at Rev Canon Fleming as he returned from service in a wagonette with his servant. The assailants fired from six to seven yards away, one bullet striking his face. Fleming, unarmed, had warned against returning after dark amid rising sectarian tension. Police found empty Enfield cartridges at the scene. A nearby hedge firing wounded a policeman near Cappaghiwhite County Tipperary.
In Socorro New Mexico on December 28 threats of violence surge after the murder of Mr Conklin editor of the Sun. The Sheriff and three citizens are arrested as implicated and bail denial heightens Mexican tensions. A safety committee forms while a detachment of U S troops is en route from Santa Fe to guard the railroad and property. All remains tense with no further bloodshed reported.

Also notices offer stockholders search for a European opportunity and cook wanted. Addressed to residents of Christiana and surrounding area with shipping access on a navigable stream near Wilmington.
