The market opened with smaller farmer attendance due to the storm though sales were brisk. Poultry prices edged up slightly with turkeys 14 to 15 cents per pound, ducks 14 to 15 cents, geese 75 cents to 1.25 dollars, chickens 90 cents to 1.50, eggs 40 cents and butter 40 cents. Christmas trees were widely offered from 50 cents to 8.50 dollars. Some talk of a market tomorrow afternoon, but many farmers expect Friday all day.
Senator Conkling returned to the chamber for the first time this session and drew attention with his entrance. The piece notes one of the greatest snowfalls here and cites Vennor’s Montreal Gazette forecast predicting extreme cold and snow from the 15th to 17th with wind gales and sleighing afterward.
