Bernard Henze proprietor of a major Washington restaurant died at his residence in Washington yesterday morning after a short illness from pneumonia. He was the brother of A. Henze of this city. Local notices mention others in town at work on Dr Jones residence and fresco paper hanging by Ball Anderson firm from Wilmington. A minor item notes Lotta the actress under social pressure and Dr Bull's Baltimore Pills offered as a remedy for dyspepsia and headaches.
William Robinson is held on $5000 bail after a private and magistrate hearing in West Chester. He disclosed four accomplices in the Bailey Brothers burglary near Kennett Square. He identified two suspects nearby and two Philadelphia burglars as associates. The suspect, about 50, has long been known to police as a career criminal.
The funeral from 717 Tatnall street drew about seven thousand attendees, said to be the largest in the city. The casket was silver mounted and dressed in white satin, with burial in her father’s vault alongside her baby. A dispute with the Catholic Church is cited as a reason for the large turnout. Deaths for the week numbered sixteen with diverse causes and origins, as tallied by Registrar E B Frazer. Dr Bull's Baby Syrup promoted as a safe remedy priced at 25 cents.
Coroner investigated a Christiana fatality after Isaac Palmer a 36 year old enslaved man died from head wounds suffered during a drunken fight with Elijah Price and Benjamin Matthews on November 22 1879 in New Castle Hundred Delaware. Witnesses described blows with a green stick and a club plus a subsequent death from head trauma. Warrants issued for Elijah Price and Ben Matthews who vanished after the assault.
Marital entries list Edward S. Rodgers of New Castle Delaware and Marianne Hynson of Chestertown Md. Edward S. Rodgers and Marianne Hynson wed at the bride’s parents home. Ambrose B. Frasier and Mary L. Jolly, both of Kent County Md. were married by Rev. George Leary near Edenville Md. John H. Ner and Sarah J. Morris, both of Wilmington Del., married at 515 Street Chester Pa.
