In a libel suit against Delaware Fire and Marine Insurance, Uriah Ferree testified on land value in Dauphin County with 1.2 million feet of timber and assorted timber products. The many friends and acquaintances of William Peach will be pained to learn of his death at his residence in New Castle Hundred. He was in his List year and born in Brandywine Hundred. He moved to his farm near Persi's nurseries on Hare's Corner Road and was a long-time farmer recognized for honest dealings. A staunch Democrat who never married, he helped those in distress and sold the best butter at markets. Funeral Friday at 11 o'clock, Old Swedes church burying ground.

Lore of New Castle County Albert Whiteley of Kent County and George Russell of Sussex County meet at Dover at noon to cast votes for Winfield Scott Hancock for President and Was H. English for Vice President Colin Bewley of Smyrna named messenger to convey the vote to Washington and deliver to Vice President Wheeler
Mayor Allmond appointed John D. Richardson policeman for the Second district to fill the vacancy from the removal of Frederick Gutcimer. The new appointee is a young man who has worked as a truck salesman for some time.
Yesterday a six driving wheel locomotive No 80 attached to a Northbound freight on the P W B R K backed into a switch at Bush river and jumped the track. The New York and Washington service leaving at 6 17 was delayed over three hours. The locomotive was damaged.
Capt James McIntire of the steamship Republic departs for Florida to assume command of the Mary Morgan on the Cedar Keys to Pensacola run. He will return in spring to resume duties aboard the Republic.
The Young People’s Literary and Musical Society of First Presbyterian Church presents its first entertainment on Thursday December 1 in the church school room at Youth and Market streets. Admission is free and all are invited.
The City pumps report November activity for the Workington pump at City Mill and the Knowles pump at Cool Spring Reservoir. The Workington ran 23 843 hours producing 315 270 strokes and delivered 100 246 400 gallons to Coal Spring Reservoir, down 15 133 760 gallons from last November. The Knowles Pump operated 25 days 167 hours delivering 9 046 142 gallons to Hodney Street Reservoir. John Munford a young married man living near Broadrun was thrown from a colt while riding home from a sale. The horse reared and bolted causing him to fall onto the hard road injuring him internally. He is expected to die from these injuries.
