A church bulletin for Holy Comforter at Kenilworth Avenue and Warwick Road details Rev. Leland Hobart Danforth as rector. The service includes Morning Prayer and sermon with organ preludes, processional hymns, offertory anthem, soloists, and recessional.
Sunday service at Wilmette Avenue and Lake Avenue led by minister Erskine Martin Jeffords with Marvin Rusk as student assistant features a sermon on Mill-Wheel Prophecies and a program including choirs, offertory solos, organ recitals, and a conference event. The day includes Sunday School at 9 30, teen and youth groups, and upcoming ordination and musical events. The conference session is at St James Methodist in Chicago with readings of appointments and a Youth Program.
Dr. Allison delivers a youth themed sermon on October 8 at Wilmette Baptist, with a globe gift for the church school. The church hosts rummage sale on Wilmette avenue, choir rehearsals, Young People society meetings, and October events including an all church banquet with Rev Emory Luccock. New devotional copies arrive and the church school reports strong organization and planning for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The rum mage sale is set for October 19 and the last two Book Reviews feature Kenneth Horan on October 6 and Hope Summers on October 13. The Woman's Missionary society hosts a patriotic dessert meeting October 12 at 1 in the Woman's room with Mrs. Fred L. Bradfute as guest speaker and Mrs. J. D. Cox leading Group One as hostesses. Mrs. E. A. Fellers will sing and a cabinet meeting is scheduled for 11.
St John’s Lutheran Missouri Synod Wilmette and Park avenues led by Pastor J H Gockel offers services at 9:00 a.m. with Holy Communion, 10:55 a.m. Sunday school class for ages three to five, and an 11:00 a.m. service with a Prelude Andantino.
In a church program the organists Franck and Schmauck perform Reward Them That Wait For Thee and The Lord Is My Shepherd while Mendelssohn Be Notee is played postlude. Meetings include Ladies' Aid today at 2 p.m and catechumen class at 8 p.m in the pastor's study.
The St Augustine church calendar lists services October 6 to 11 with Holy Communion, church school, sermons, and youth meetings. The Women’s Associated Guilds plan a parish house rummage sale in November, with transport arranged by Mrs H B Johnston.
The Evangelical Lutheran church on Seventh Street at Greenleaf holds morning worship at 11 and 7:45 medley services with organ music. The High School Choir will sing, and a newly organized choir rehearses Monday. Women’s societies announce meetings in Park Ridge and Evanston with a convention dinner at Edgewater Beach.
The Lutheran church invites all women and friends to a “Church History” event. Senior choir rehearses Thursday at 7 30 PM, junior choir Saturday at 10 AM, and an eight week adult instruction class begins Wednesday October 25 at 8 PM for members and nonmembers to learn church teachings. The church welcomes all to next Sunday worship.
Kenilworth Union Church staff note Dr. Herbert L. Willett is absent on Sunday October 8 with Rev. Lawrence E. Schwarz of First Presbyterian Oak Park occupying the pulpit. Topic is God's Grace. Service includes organ preludes and choir pieces. Sunday school starts at 9 45 with classes for children through high school. Women’s guild meets October 9 at 10 to support Red Cross efforts.
The First Presbyterian Church on Ninth Street at Greenleaf Avenue invites worshippers to 11 am Sunday services with the theme Spiritual Re Armament. Music includes Handel organ preludes Rachmaninoff and Mendelssohn with soloists Edward Otis and others. Events: Sunday school 9:30 am adult Bible class 10 am, pastor’s communicant class 9:30 am, junior church during worship, Boy and Girl Scout meetings midweek, and a Board of Trustees meeting Monday at 8 pm.
