Wilmette Civic League formed from Luncheon group

At Shawnee Country Club last Friday night the Wilmette Civic Luncheons reorganized as the Wilmette Civic League under a state charter with broader civic aims. Dr. Donald M. Gallie was named president, with 160 guests present and plans for monthly Chicago luncheons and new standing committees to study local civic issues.

Commencement Exercises Planned for Wilmette Schools

Announcement says the Wilmette Public Schools will hold the annual commencement in the Howard school gymnasium. Due to the large graduating class, organizers chose Wilmette over New Trier High School. The class totals 191 graduates from Howard and Stolp with 75 and 116 respectively.

New Trier High to Present Tri Ship Award at Assembly

At New Trier High School assembly on Monday morning June 2, awards will be presented including the Tri Ship prize for ideals of sportsmanship fellowship and citizenship. Otto R. Barnett of Glencoe will attend to award prizes and emblems will be given to standout track baseball rifle club and band members. The Harvard club prize for top junior scholar will also be announced and awarded a bound book with Harvard bookplate.

New Trier Senior Class Votes to Gift Painting

The New Trier High School senior class approved buying an original painting as its school gift. A committee led by Jane Copthorne and including Dorothy Smith, Jean Forrest, Ed Cullen, Richard Schuettge and Robert Pearse will arrange presentation at the June 12 commencement exercises.

Burglary Attempt Scrambles Away as Homeowner Appears

A man tried to gain entry to the Louis P. Shanahan residence at 1637 Forest Avenue Wilmette on a Wednesday at about 1 30 pm by breaking a first floor window. He fled when Mrs Shanahan appeared, running through a vacant lot and down the rear alley leaving a bluish gray topcoat.

George H. Redding reports Wilmette Community Chest aims to raise 35000 with 22772 pledged so far for 1930. Only about 18361 has been paid, a deficit of 12227.72 versus 1929 totals. Campaign plans include a supplementary appeal and mailed pledge card to gather remaining funds.

Sears School Annual Exhibit Set for June 6

The Joseph Sears school in Kenilworth will hold its annual exhibit on Friday June 6. Pupils will display work for parents across every classroom and department.
