Great Highway Nears Reality for Evanston Route

A Chicago Sanitary District grant funds soil removal and roadbed build for a 4 mile concrete road from Devon Avenue to Evanston West Railroad Avenue. The plan links with Wilmette Kenilworth Winnetka and Glencoe to form a six mile northward highway along the west of the North Western tracks. Traffic will use six nine foot lanes with outer lanes for heavy vehicles and inner lanes for through high speed traffic. The project aims to ease Sheridan road congestion and cut travel time between Glencoe and Chicago by about 30 minutes.
