The Old Town Folks of Wilmette invite residents with 25 years in the village and their families to a May 15 dinner at the Wilmette Masonic temple auditorium followed by a talk and color photography by Dr. C O Schneider. Legionnaires Plan Wilmette Memorial Day Ceremony
Wilmette Post No. 46 American Legion will lead Memorial Day events on May 30. At 7 am a Legionnaires unit and Boy Scouts will gather flowers for decorating veterans’ graves at Memorial Park after the Taps ceremony. A parade to Washington Park follows with flag-raising at noon ending the day.

New Trier Taxpayers to Receive 1928 Bills
New Trier township begins mailing the first batch of 1928 tax bills. Sanborn Hale, after returning from Chicago with five of sixteen tax books, worked late with sixteen assistants to prepare the initial mailings. Rates shown cover Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, and Glencoe with 1928 figures compared to 1927.

Tax rates for New Trier villages rise over 50 percent
The 1928 tax rates for New Trier villages were released but exact assessed valuations for each village and the township could not be determined in this issue. Estimates suggest the 1928 tax will exceed 50 percent higher than 1927. Full valuation figures will be printed in next week’s Wilmette Life.

Tax bill figures for shore towns show drop since 1927
Shore towns taxes excluding village school and park districts total 2.26, down from 3.76 in 1927. Distribution includes State 0.30, county 0.46, forest preserve 0.10, sanitary district 0.46, road and bridge 0.08, high school 0.82, mosquito abatement 0.04. Taxpayers urged to keep both bill parts, attach name and address, pay by check, and return envelopes for receipts. Bills due within ten days to ensure service.

Wilmette Health Reports Two New Disease Cases
The Wilmette Health department reports one new scarlet fever case and one new mumps case for the week ending Wednesday May 7. Current active cases include three scarlet fever and one whooping cough in the village.
