Northwestern study outlines profits in retail meat stores
The Northwestern University School of Commerce released what is described as the first comprehensive survey of retail meat store operations. Professor Horace Secrist reports an average net profit of about five percent of gross sales for successful dealers, with seven of ten stores profitable. High wage costs, mis management, irregular customer purchases, high rents, and heavy taxes drive overhead, while modest expenses and reasonable margins foster profits.

Ministers Oppose Mobilization Day at Chicago Meeting
Methodist ministers held a June 23 gathering at Chicago Temple and unanimously approved resolutions endorsing William Randolph Hearst for opposing booze and boodle in the Democratic party.
