Wilmette hosts a July 4 Independence Day field day under the Wilmette Post 46 of the American Legion. Events include kiddie races, novelty contests, a Punch and Judy show, a fire-breathing magician, and a town-wide track meet directed by New Trier High School staff. The celebration runs from 2:30 PM at the new municipal avenue area with a later community dance at the Wilmette Country Club.
