The New Trier Citizens' league convenes at the LaSalle hotel at 12 15 today to discuss the resignation of township assessor George R Harbaugh and a disputed rise in personal property assessment rates under county assessor Jacob s orders The group will also consider compensation for the township collector and a settlement with the Board of Auditors.
At a Tuesday village meeting Trustee Harry C. Kinne introduced a resolution noting that the Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee railroad has occupied Greenleaf avenue and Electric place since January 5, 1898 without compensation. An order in the U S District Court instructed creditors to present claims to the receivers by July 31, 1933. Village Manager C M Osborn estimated the amount due at 100,425.72 through July 8, 1933, with prior operation under an ordinance before 1916 and no grant since.
Wilmette health commissioner Dr. Martin H. Seifert says the public bathing beach water is perfectly safe and purer than nearby shores. He explains murkiness stems from waterworks construction and notes weekly tests show no infectious conditions, with immediate public notice if any arise.
George R. Harbaugh resigns as New Trier assessor after clashing with County Assessor Jacobs over personal property valuations. He cites short deadlines, inadequate pay, and inability to perform an equitable assessment, transferring books to Jacobs in Chicago. Continues on page 5.
