Editor notes the Wilmette Handicraft class at the Community Center sponsors model aeroplane building. An Aeroplane club meets Wednesdays after noon with free instruction under a teacher. A display of models is available Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 and evenings 7 to 10.
The Wilmette Play Ground and Recreation Board announces a Valentine Barn Dance at the Community Center on Tuesday evening February 14. The Hayloft orchestra will provide lively music starting at 7 30 with public address to aid hearing the calls. Beginners are welcome and instruction is free before each dance. The club collects a small charge to cover the orchestra.
In the second round of the S O S Girls Basketball League the S O S team defeated H S S 18 to 13 with Stolp guard Lena Malizio limited to seven points while Irene Terzakes of 8 0 5 led all scorers with 14. N T S topped Stolp 4 36 to 4 thanks to Polly Krafthofer who sank nine baskets. Jitterbugs defeated Howard Girls 30 to 1 as El Magn er poured in 22. Tigers beat Wildcats 61 to 19 to claim sole possession of first place with Bob Noble and Jim Gregory each scoring 16. Cornhuskers crushed Super Stars 46 to 29 as George Koerber dropped 24. Nelson Laundry defeated Moderne Cleaners 42 to 26 with R Meter scoring 14 and Heitman brothers 10 each. Lyman Drugs beat Va Va Ells 42 to 23 as Reed starred for the winners. Final standings listed for January 25.
Ridge Runners beat Wilmette Confectioners 39 to 29 after a 23 all tie mid second half. Russ Johnson led Wilmette with 19 points, Bob Specht scored 14 for Casa Lomas in a 49 to 45 win over the Toppers. Standings show Ridge Runners atop the group with a 6-1 record as of January 27.
Oscar Beck’s Hornets overwhelmed Willies 42 16 as DeBerard’s 8 baskets widened the gap. Eagles beat St Francis 16 10 after a tight first half, Langford and Van Der Hoff sparking a late run. Jim Clarke led Dumoc to 44 23 over W W L with 22 points. Flashes beat Cambu 53 19. Hawkeyes top Demons 35 23 to tie for first with Flashes. Bobcats prevail 34 28 against Groucho as Mal Hill quieted Cloud to eight.
Tom Mullins and Henry James sparked a tight contest for River Inn with sharp shooting. Seifert led scoring with 16 points while Mullins added 14 as the team fought to hold off a strong challenge.
Plans for the largest Amateur show by the Wilmette Playground and Recreation board are set for tonight at 8 in the Howard school auditorium. Twenty six acts auditioned Friday at the Community Center and will perform including tap and ballet dances, barn dances, tumbling, acrobatics, reading, and harmonica. Village President Harry C. Kinne will award prizes while Bob Brooklass serves as master of ceremonies.
The Wilmette Community Center table tennis club held a round robin event last Thursday night as no out of town match was scheduled. Scores show mixed results among players and the club invites nearby teams to arrange a match for next week with Daniel M. Davis, director of the Wilmette Playground and Recreation board.
Edward Benson of Wilmette spoke to the Center Stamp club last Thursday sharing helpful tips for philately. He invited members to the North Shore Philatelic society’s fifth annual exhibition and bourse held three days at the Edgewater Beach hotel in Chicago.
Elizabeth Ann Greigg will celebrate her thirteenth birthday this Thursday with a luncheon Saturday for ten friends. They will spend the afternoon at the Chicago Skating arena. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Max C Greigg of 727 Central avenue.
