Registration dates set for Cook County residents

Henry A. Gardner, Republican committeeman, announced two registration days for country towns in Cook County on September 26 and October 6. Residents away on those dates may register at the county clerk in Chicago. the new permanent registration law does not apply to New Trier township villages. People must register in person and may obtain affidavits and instructions at the county clerk’s office.

Townsend Club No 1 Wilmette Meeting Aug 21

Townsend Club No 1 of Wilmette meets in the Village hall Friday evening August 21 at 8 o'clock. No authorized speaker due to campaign pressures. members urged to attend for campaign work. McClure Elected Trustee for Four Years at Chautauqua

Wilmette executive vice president W Frank McClure of Critchfield & Company Chicago has been elected a four year trustee of Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua New York at the annual meeting. The institution, a longtime center for popular education, counts Roosevelt among recent speakers and notes a forthcoming address by Governor Landon on his Eastern tour.

Doctor Mee Goes On Vacation For Two Or Three Weeks

Dr. Lester E. Mee leaves Saturday for a vacation of two or three weeks. In his absence Dr. R. B. Benning will oversee the Wilmette office.

Winners Listed in Wilmette Life Who's Who Contest

The Wilmette Life August 13 issue announces prize winners for the Who's Who Among Wilmette Business People contest. First prize goes to Helen Hall of 1023 Greenwood Ave with 25 dollars, followed by nine more winners from Wilmette and nearby Kenilworth, receiving smaller sums. Local Legion Commander Heads to State Convention

Commander Carl A. Peterson of the Wilmette post will represent the local American Legion at the Danville state convention starting Sunday. He will be joined by Mrs. Peterson and by Mrs. John Boddie to represent the Wilmette Legion auxiliary. Potatoes and Pansies Union Sermon Planned

Dr. George D. Allison of Wilmette Baptist Church will preach at a union service in First Congregational Church on Sunday morning August 23 at 11 o clock. The sermon titled Potatoes and Pansies is part of vacation season meditations. The Baptist and Congregational churches share July and August services, ending September 6 with resumption of separate services September 13. Dr. John G. Hindley led July services.

Two Sailing Parties Rescued Off Wilmette Harbor

Coast Guard crews rescued two sailing parties off Wilmette harbor last week. Evanston residents Milton McClaughry Leroy Peterson and Harry Williams were saved when their canoe capsized a quarter mile from the harbor mouth. Chicagoans Charles E Otto and William Wingard were rescued after their sailboat overturned in a squall a quarter mile north of Wilmette pierhead.

Four Towns Seek Canal Bank Conversion to Recreation

The Chicago Association of Commerce may join Evanston Wilmette Niles Center and Lincolnwood in asking the Sanitary District of Chicago to convert the drainage canal banks north of Devon Avenue into recreational grounds. If approved towns must fund the project, with potential WPA and county or state aid possible this year.
