Stolp Senior boys win Playground Softball title in double sweep

Stolp Senior champions clinched the playground league title by downing Village Green 29 11 and Wattman 18 5 after taking both Village Green and Wattman into camp last week. Village Green defeated Stolp 29 11 while Stolp Juniors edged Wattman Juniors 11 10. Standings show Jones and Bud Johnson among top performers with several close match results.

Wattman Playground Week Brims With Fun Activities

Wattman seventh week sees daily specials from a Tuesday circus to a Friday planned Joseph Lee Day. Kids enjoy tickets stalls, Fortune Teller, Weight Guesser, Fish Pond, Little Theatre, ice cream, and a Swedish Folk dance. Cubs game trips, overnight Girl Scout cabin outing, campfire songs, and preparations for Swedish costumes headline a busy week with many named organizers and participants.

Wilmette Tennis Tourney Crowned Winners at Wattman Park

Kathryn Fletcher won the women's singles at Wilmette Playground and Recreation's village-wide tennis tourney on Wattman Park courts. She defeated Mrs. Harold Smith in three sets after dropping the first. In semis, Smith beat Dorothy Vollman, Fletcher over Mary Helen Arns. Frank G. Ocain and Robert Eversfield won the men's doubles 6-4 6-1. Bob Arns claimed boys' singles by defeating Don McIlrath 6-2 6-3. Additional singles results include Gordon Wells beating Foster Gilges and Jack Jacobi over Howard in eight matches last week.

Stolp Playground Ends Busy Summer Week With Exhibits

This week at Stolp playground marks the eighth week of activities with a Thursday exhibit from two to four. Parents and friends are invited to attend. Friday features a free screening of films by Director Davis at Howard gym at 10 o clock, followed by an all day picnic at the forest preserve with games and contests.

Hornets Rally Falls Short in Wilmette Junior Softball

In the Wilmette playground league the Hornets lost 11 to 9 after a late surge. Lynam's Sinclair easily defeated the Dodgers 25 to 2. Goodwins beat the Howlers 13 to 10 after scoring 9 runs in the third inning.
