Wilmette Urges Rapid Grade Separation Plan

The Wilmette Chamber of Commerce presses the village board to decide on track elevation for the Chicago and North Western and Chicago and North Shore Electric lines. A special committee reviews the request outlining dirt versus iron or concrete structures and new subway routes to parallel the rail lines.

Wilmette Village Publishes Complete Financial Statement

The village board at Wilmette approved publication of a full financial report at regular intervals as urged by the Chamber of Commerce in line with state law. The last trial balance detailing the village finances appears on page 59 this issue following Trustee Hans von Reinsperg's recommendation.

Kenilworth Village Water Plant Surpasses Million-Gallon Day

In a dry spell last month Kenilworth's water works pumped over a million gallons on each of three days, a sharp rise from 322 500 gallons in 1925 before the new plant. 1926 335 325 gallons 1927 525 844 gallons 1928 606 000 gallons. 1929 saw 806 000 and now the million mark. The plant’s capacity is 1.5 million gallons daily but the intake limits supply. The village board voted to have the water supply committee investigate and report at the September meeting.

Board Lets Award for Alley Paving Project

The Wilmette Village board awarded the alley paving contract for the first alley south of Greenleaf avenue between Eighth and Ninth street to M. Foley and company of Evanston. The firm was the lowest bidder with an estimated project cost of 3168.60 dollars.

Kenilworth Enacts 1930 Tax Levy At $87,080.25

Kenilworth Village board approved the 1930 tax levy ordinance at the regular meeting. The levy totals $87,080.25 for May 1, 1930 to April 30, 1931, down from $89,311.25 a year ago.

Stores include Paul McNamee’s Store for Men, Snider-Carel Drug, Van Deusen’s Grocery, Nelson Brothers Laundry, Worthen’s, Miss McMahon’s Millinery, and more offering one dollar deals on hats gloves meats fabrics auto services and flowers.
