Bandits Foiled In Jail Escape Plot By Prisoner Murphy

Patrick Morphiy and duisoph Schweikert, jailed awaiting grand jury action, attempted to break out by hiding a knife and a six inch sai. Murphy led the plan, crafting a wooden tool to enlarge a barred opening and exploiting a cell cage by using a drilled hole and improvised tunnel.

Incredible Jail Escape Plot Recounted In Aged Chronicle

A detailed jail break tale describes Michael Murphy and accomplices drilling, sawing, and tunneling from a cell. Murphy used a bed post to enlarge a doorway, a floor mop to conceal the gap, and planned to tunnel under the south wall with a brace turned crowbar. Escaped guards, threats against a co conspirator, and a near capture preceded the arrest.

Hardanger banquet an elaborate affair in Willmar

Hardangerlaget held a banquet after a village pageant featuring a mock wedding from Hardanger. Sam Rasmussen and May impersonated the couple while K H Skaar played old country violin aboard boats circling the point. Nearly five hundred guests enjoyed old coun try dishes as Normaendenes and the Citizens Band performed and memories of Hardanger were renewed.

Way Down East presented by Home Talent at Opera House

District Court Opens For Fall Term In Willmar

District Court meets next Monday in Willmar with no criminal cases on the calendar. Civil dockets list six cases including Alfred Bergeson vs Hans Halvorson and The Atwater Union Elevator Co vs Chas Hanson. Plaintiffs include Olsen, Swenson and Crane listed as counsel for several actions. The Gazette notes the calendar shows only excuses and references to pleadings.

St Cloud Presbytery to Meet in Willmar Next Week

Public invited to hear Dr W B Harahan lecture on the Home Mission Problem. The Presbytery of St Cloud will meet at First Presbyterian church in Willmar on Tue and Wed Oct 5 and 6 with a popular meeting Tuesday evening where Rev W B Harshaw will speak on the home mission problem of Minnesota. Ortonville Exposition Opens With Prime Corn Prizes

West Central Minnesota prepares for the Corn and Alfalfa Exposition in Ortonville October 18 14 and 15 1915. Department A awards $781 in corn prizes across multiple single ear and 10 ear 30 ear and 120 ear classes plus special flint early and late sweet corn. First prizes range from $10 to $25 with additional cash and minor prizes and a $200 sweepstakes for the top 10 ears. Department B rewards county best exhibitors by boys prizes from $5 down to $1 and a state fair trip as sweepstakes. Departments C D and E cover alfalfa grains special premiums and exhibits with multiple cash prizes and an essay prize a band contest and space for farm garden and orchard displays. Kandiyohi Farm Sells for 280 Acres at 109 Per Acre

Bergquist brothers Victor and Thelander sold their Kandiyohi County farm of 280 acres near Kandiyohi Station to J. A. Doltack of Spencer Iowa at $109 per acre. The deal includes previous parcels bought at 85 and 74 per acre, with improvements such as a large cement silo. Dolbeck to take possession next March. Lundgren to run the farm next season. Willmar broker A. H. Brown arranged the sale.

New Pipe Organ to Be Dedicated at Norwegian Lutheran Free Church

A newly installed pipe organ at the Norwegian Lutheran Free church will be dedicated Thursday evening with a concert. Prof F Meling Christiansen, Miss Cora Osmundson, Rev J R Michaelson, and Miss Helga Petterson will perform. Admission is 50 cents. program includes organ and vocal solos and selections by Grieg and MacDowell. The Little Helpers' Society of the Swedish Baptist church also meets Friday evening in the church basement.
