Death of Joseph H Neer Pioneer of New London

Joseph H Neer of New London died Saturday morning after a stroke. Born July 1832 in Springfield Ohio, he moved to Roseville and later New London, where he engaged in general merchandise, real estate, and sheep raising. A longtime school board member and justice of the peace, he gifted ten acres to the school district for agricultural study. Survived by his wife, two daughters Hattie Johnson and Alice Halvoreen, funeral held Tuesday at the Presbyterian church with Rev. Hudson and Rev. Drysdale officiating. interment at Oak Hill cemetery. Pallbearers named Estrem, Larson, Peterson, Swenson, Broberg, Parker.

All-Mail Train Sets Speed Record on Great Northern Run

The first all mail train through this division of the Great Northern ran from Chicago to Seattle as a test to cut eleven hours from the schedule. Conductor Louis Larson and engineer Harry Kemp led the crew as the train, limited to mail and baggage cars, reduced time between Litchfield and Willmar to 22 minutes, averaging 70 mph on a 28 mile stretch. Milwaukee Road competes for a four million dollar government mail contract.

The Royal Chef and The Lyman Twins, two popular plays from last season, will be staged here next week with the same cast as before. The Royal Chef opens Monday and The Lyman Twins Saturday evening. both productions are praised for merit and deserve strong patronage. Meanwhile a Western Union crew works on the Willmar to Sioux Falls telegraph line, with foreman D D F Goggin noting staffing difficulties and inviting applicants.

Bethesda Homes to Build Aged Care Facility Plan

At yesterday's trustees meeting Bethesda Homes approved a plan to build a new aged care facility. Foundations to be laid this fall with completion next spring, additions possible later. Estimated cost around $6,000. debt reduced by $3,000. Rev Nordberg of New London elected treasurer replacing Rev Michaelson. The homes currently care for 47 orphans and 3 old people, aiming to house 25 to 30 seniors in the new building.

Mary Haley obituary recalls a Christian life of service

Mrs. Mary Haley died peacefully Sunday afternoon at four o'clock in Kandiyohi County. Born in Fremont Ireland sixty four years ago she immigrated young and married John Haley in Prior Lake Minnesota in 1862. Thirteen children were born to the couple with eleven living. Loved for kindness unselfishness and steady church faith her death brings deep sorrow to neighbors and family as she leaves a lasting legacy of Christian devotion and patient care.
