Court Opens Monday With Light Citizenship Calendar

The Twelfth Judicial District Court begins the fall term Monday at ten with a light docket focused on citizenship cases. Seventeen applicants will be examined by a Federal Official from St Paul, the smallest group yet. Several other local ditch and tax matters fill the calendar, plus two criminal cases pending. The Grand Jury convenes Monday afternoon and the Petit Jury on Tuesday morning as local officials note case procedures and notices.

Willing Workers Plan First Full Meeting at Church

The Willing Workers of the Swedish Mission church will hold their first full meeting at the church Thursday evening of this week. Summer meetings have been at farm homes in the country. Program includes vocal solo by Viola Peterson, piano solo by Eleanor Ostlund, reading by Ruth Holmquist, vocal solo by Oscar Augustson, violin solo by Pearl Elkjer, and vocal solo by Miss Penrose.

Coffee Social at Bethel Church Basement This Week

The Bethel Ladies Society hosts a coffee social in the church basement this Thursday afternoon inviting the general public. Orreds Fail to Recover Property in Bank Case

Judge Daly in Renville on September 19 delivered a decision in Lillie Anderson and Elmer Orred versus Green Lake State Bank and Russell Spicer. The court found the conveyance of property was voluntary and not procured by fraud, and ruled neither plaintiff owned the premises nor held rights to possession while defendants recover costs.

New Canopy Installed at Mason ic Temple

A new cast iron canopy seven by nine feet extends over the sidewalk at the Masonic Temple to improve appearance. Purchased from the Minneapolis Ornamental Iron Company, two workers set it in place, with iron chains anchoring it. A central light will illuminate the canopy, costing between seven and eight hundred dollars. A large emblem, about three by five feet, will be added for over one hundred dollars.

Local Guards Unit Receives First Pay for Drills

Monday evening the local National Guard company paid out $1300 to 70 members including officers for drill work from March 23 to July 1. Pay averages $1 per drill with average earnings around $45 for two weeks’ forest fire duty at Lake City.

Stolen Car Recovered After Wreck Near Maynard

Sheriff Nelson of Clara City and Sheriff Bonde of Willmar helped recover a stolen Ford coupe owned by Iver Nelson of Willmar after a Wednesday evening wreck one mile east of Maynard. The car, found with a torn top and broken wheels, showed evidence of professional theft including a matching key, swapped interior curtains, and a South Dakota license plate. The bandits, injured, were taken to a Granite Falls doctor, and a second Ford coupe was reportedly stolen at Granite Falls.

Musical program by Girl Scouts Troop No 2 at Bethel Lutheran

The Girl Scouts Troop No 2 present a musical program on Friday evening September 29 at 8 o'clock in Bethel Lutheran church. The program includes songs, Scripture reading and prayer, piano solos by Ingeborg Olson, vocal duet by Evelyn Mattson and Agnes Elkjer, recitations by Leis Anderson and Carol Bjornberg, piano duets by Esther Olson and Pearl Benson, a talk by Miss Engdahl, a piano trio, violin solo by Signe Anderson, and chorus from Thelele Club. Sandwiches pickles cake and coffee will be served. all are invited.

Automobile Collision at Litchfield Avenue Crossing

Two Ford cars collided Friday evening at the Litchfield Avenue and Highth Street crossing. Drivers were A. E. Renstead of Pennock and Roy Downs of Kandiyohi. Renstead’s car suffered severe front-wheel damage and axle bending. Downs’s car was only lightly damaged. Renstead traveled west on Litchfield, Downs came south on Eighth. A program and social will follow at Christina Lutheran Church on Thursday evening September 28, all welcome.

Boy Killed in Auto Accident Sunday

A family trip to Olivia ended in a fatal auto crash Sunday afternoon when the car left the road and rolled several times. One young son died at once while Mrs Feifarck suffered a crushed leg possibly leading to amputation. The vehicle was destroyed and the accident occurred about one o clock in the afternoon.

Telephone worker injured by gravel truck accident

Theodore C. Torkelson of Northwestern Bell was injured when a state highway department gravel truck struck him as he stepped from a pole near Eagle Lake on the road to Spicer. He suffered a five inch elbow wound requiring several stitches and will be unable to work for about a month at Rest Hospital.

Splendid Vocal Program by Dovre Singing Society at Fair Grounds

The Dovre Singing Society of Minneapolis presents a Sunday afternoon concert at 2:30 PM in the Fair Grounds Auditorium under the Sons of Norway, directed by Olof Halten. Fingers Lacerated After Corn Shredder Accident

The Rasmussen family near Pennock reports four fingers badly lacerated and crushed when a boy appeared beside a corn shredder. Fire truck called out third time in one week

A fire at the shed behind Mrs. C Bonde's residence, rented by the N J Sletten family, burned the structure to the ground. About 17 hundred feet of hose were needed. The blaze drew a large crowd and was checked by water from a nearby main. The cause remains unknown.
