Racing at Kandiyohi County Fair Highlights Local Horses

Audiences witnessed a lively county fair with five entries in the 3 minute class, headlined by Night Express taking multiple heats. Pauline and Prince dominated the 2:30 and 2:25 trotting races, while Rustic Junior and Onward Patch earned top placings in other events and a special trotting race showcased five horses. Farmer Boy Accident Shocks Community Near Willmar

A tragic accident near Willmar reveals the death of Burton Sandbo, son of Christian and Mrs. Sandbo, on the Thorpe farm north of the city. While Burton and Christian Korsmo were out looking for ducks by a pond, a gun incident occurred and ended in his death as they returned via Harold Sandbo’s land seeking information about missing chickens.

Murder by accident ends life of Burton Sandbo

A rural Minnesota incident details how Burton Sandbo died after a pistol discharged while attempting to strike a skunk with the gun. The wounded boy, Julius Burton Sandbo, died soon after, with the community mourning a devout youth. The obituary notes his birth December 5, 1900, and burial at Eagle Lake cemetery after a service at Eagle Lake church.

Poultry Association Holds Annual Meeting and Elections

The Kandi yahi Poultry Association met in the fairgrounds Poultry building. Neil B. Carlson was elected president, D. T. Carlson secretary and treasurer, with power to appoint a vice president in each town. The 1920 show will be tied to the County Fair, a Junior class will be added, and prizes offered.

Kandiyohi County WWI Hero Returns Home

Corporal Richard Soderling, son of Mr. and Mrs. G A Soderling, returned home Friday after over two years overseas, claiming the longest service among Kandiyohi County boys. He joined April 23, 1917, sailed to France, served with the 53rd Regiment through Aisne Marne and Meuse Argonne battles, met his brother in Toul, France, and discharged at Camp Dodge September 13. Also noted is a visit by the Nordstroms of Sacred Heart to their daughter Miss Helen Nordstrom, a nurse in Minneapolis. The Willmar football team prepares for Benson, and the Presbyterian Ladies Social Union hosts a Friday coffee in the church basement.

Kandiyohi County Fair of 1919 Sets Record

The Kandiyohi County Fair 1919 achieved record gate receipts and attendance with about eight thousand attendees when including soldiers and children. Friday set a milestone with 7000 paid admissions and $2,342 in receipts, surpassing 1916 and last year’s figures. Exhibits across corn, fruit, and crafts were praised, a large flower show, and numerous club booths highlighted the event alongside school displays, war relics, and community showcases. Next week a fuller review of cattle, horses, poultry, and prize winners will follow.

Death of Milan Woman Ends Long-Aided Life

Mrs Andrea Q Struxness of Milan died after a long illness. Her husband predeceased her, and she leaves ten living children. Albert and Carl Strurmesa of ci rocaed telegramed of her death last Saturday, but arrived too late to say goodbye. Also noted is Otto Frondlund’s wartime injury anniversary and a birthday gathering for Leonard Johnson with gifts and a small program.

Miss Edna Lunstead teaches in Wasall Montana this year while her sister Ella teaches at Kali Spell. Their sister Myrtle from this city is currently visiting Montana, reflecting a family presence in the state’s teaching scene.

Big Meeting at State Park Sunday in Sib ley State Park

A large Indian Summer Picnic is set for Sunday at Mount Tom in Sib ley State Park. Rev. Swan Mattson of the Swedish Methodist church will lead. speeches by Carlos Avery of the Minnesota Game and Fish Commission, Senator Gandrud, Representative Wickland, and others. County Board members will attend. bands from Atwater, Brooten, Belgrade, Raymond, and Willmar invited. refreshments and free water provided. The event aims to showcase the new state park and includes a guided excursion to learn features and possibilities.
