County fair horse and motor races thrill crowd

At the county fair crowds watched weeklong events on a hillside track. Judges included Gee Muller and J B Robbins. Race heats featured horses Dan Woodford and Woodford Jr, Nell and Dick, and Prince with several quits and collisions. Friday trotting crowned Woodford Jr twice, while a Bob Radial wreck caused a near runaway. Motor cycles drew cheers as Halvorson and Anderson battled on Pope machines with a dramatic skid. Marriage notices follow.

County Fair Main Building Exhibits Noted

The main building at the Kandiyohi County Fair featured strong displays across departments. Notable booths included seed corn exhibits by Mr. Crane of Great Northern, alfalfa by David Swenson, and the State Farm with a model miniature farm. Farm clubs highlighted teamwork and progress, with Sunnyside Farm Club winning blue ribbons. Local schools, crafts, and a diverse array of vendors completed a bustling fair scene.

Hill Delivers Address At County Fair Visit

Famous Willmar magnate James J. Hill arrived by special train and spoke to farmers at the Kendiyehi County Fair grounds. Gov. A. E. Rice and Fair Board President V. Lawson greeted him as the Willmar Military Band played. Hill urged farmers to conserve form land, criticized politicians on promises, and interacted with experimental plots staff before departing for Pipestone. Local notes include births, deaths, and minor community updates across Grue and Willmar areas.

Best Ever Stock Exhibits At County Fair

The county fair stock show drew large crowds as 90 cattle and 43 horses across prime Holsteins Herefords Shorthorns Jerseys Black Polled Aberdeen Angus Kandiyohi Holstein Friesians and other breeds were displayed in crowded tents. Breeders including Stone Burgess Bergquist Berg Blomquist Syverson Johnson Tait Haley and others showcased prize animals with notable Jersey and Polled Angus entries. The big cattle tent overflowed and the stock parade along HINs street impressed visitors. poultry filled the tont with winners to be published next week.

Farm Land Sales Reported by A H Brown Iowa Buyers Named

A H Brown, Land Man, lists farm land sales over the past two weeks near Willmar Pennock Tripoli and Kerkhoven. Attendance Breaks All Local Records At 1914 County Fair

The 1914 County Fair drew strong crowds with 12,703 paid admissions over four days, 4,000 on Friday. Cash gate receipts topped last year by $1,314.80, while concessions and entries totaled about $800. Local and state support boosted finances, and a surplus is expected after expenses. The steer show, shooting gallery, and eating houses were popular, with about $570 net for the Orphans' Home and significant volunteer help for Bethesda Homes. Children from Canberra enjoyed a trip, aided by auto trips and rides, and community events included a family dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Haley for visiting families from Montana and local residents.
