Mr. D N Tallman and Gov A B Rice of the County Fuel Committee report that delivery delays stemmed from the collapse of the concrete foundations of the coal screening plant at Duluth. The damage is repaired and the first allotment coal is there for delivery. The commission urges conserving hard coal and using wood or soft coal in fall and early winter.

Navy Troop Trains Pass Through Willmar Amid Cheers
Two long trains with 400 navy men bound for Seattle pause at Willmar on Saturday and Tuesday. Led by ten seasoned seamen, the convoy traveled coast to coast with "From coast to coast" on the coaches. The New England and Eastern troops praised Willmar's station as the Canteen Committee handed out cards and fruit to the sailors amid hearty cheers. Buried in Oats: Lena White narrowly escaped injury when 500 bushels of oats collapsed a granary bin at the John E Gesch farm. The rope sill failed, the elevator bin fell, and White was buried two feet under grain for ten minutes before rescue. Sergt. Hubert B. Johnson returns to Camp Eustis, Va, after a day furlough spent in town.

Soldier Killed in Auto Accident near Litchfield
Private Enoch Hoglund, one of Willmar’s first volunteer soldiers, was killed when the car he rode in overturned near Litchfield after a faulty start. He had just earned a sixteen day furlough from Fortress Monroe and died at twenty two. The tragedy shocked the community and his funeral is planned for Sunday at the Swedish Mission church with Home Guards as honor guards.
