Bargains at Far New Fall and Winter Goods

S E Magnuson promotes a general merchandise store offering underwear, new goods arriving, groceries flour and feed, and high prices for farm produce. The message invites customers to bring items for cash, noting the fair carries bargains year round and welcomes all.

Flower Show Encouraged by Housekeepers Club

The Housekeepers Club hopes for a large attendance this Friday and Saturday for the Flower Show. Rev Fred Nordquist will give a temperance lecture at Fairlawn Baptist Church next Sunday at 3 PM. Various property trades and social events fill Willmar notes including sales by Crawford Leslie Otos Land Agency and A P Adams.

Religious services schedule across local churches

Swedish Mission Church announces Rev Bloom from Clear Lake will preach next Thursday at 8 pm. Next Sunday services at 11 am and 8 pm with Young People meeting at 6:45 pm. Presbyterian services note pastor’s sermon on Go Forward at 10:30 am and A Gospel of Power at 7:45 pm on Sept 15 with Sabbath school at noon and Christian Endeavor at 6:45 pm. Norw Luth Synod has no service at Willmar next Sunday. Solomon Lake church holds 10:30 am services. Ladies Society meets tomorrow and Sewing Circle meets next Saturday with confirmation classes on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10 am.

Village telephones fail in Kerkhoven. New London co op thrives

Kerkhoven loses central exchange due to lack of support while New London forms a cooperative exchange offering free connections and bonuses to incoming lines. New London hosts 65 phones with 10 lines entering, monthly rates cover costs and yield a surplus. Trade grows as eleven grocery firms prosper. A rummage sale by St Luke's Ladies' Guild is planned for Sept 19 in the Opera House block, with pick ups arranged through Mrs Alton Crosby.

Miss Danens Weds J August Johnson at DeSmet

Miss Elizabeth Danens of Willmar marries J August Johnson of Lake Preston South Dakota. The ceremony occurred in DeSmet South Dakota. The couple will reside in Lake Preston where Johnson works as chief engineer in the mill. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs J S Danens of Willmar.

Collision of freight trains at Grove City causes wreck

A rear end collision occurred last Monday at Grove City when extra freight No. 1504 struck local freight No. 571 at the depot. The caboose was demolished and a coal car damaged. The engineer and fireman were uninjured, while Conductor G W Pipe suffered a minor injury from the crash. Track cleared by seven the next morning.

Friday and Saturday School Program Overview

Friday afternoon opens with piano duets vocal solos and lectures led by Miss Ruth Stjernlof and other local performers. Saturday features more piano solos recitations and vocal numbers beginning at two with evening shows at eight plus refreshments through the day.

Real Estate Deal Involving Adams Swenson and Krook

A. P. Adams arranged this week for H. Swenson of Big Stone County Minnesota to own a 242 acre improved farm on section 29 in Willmar. EF. Krook of Ogden Utah acquired a fine Clinton Minnesota store building and an $8000 stock of general merchandise. Krook previously nearly moved to Willmar last spring in a plan with Martin Olson of Atwater for the Willmar Furniture stock. A death in Lake Lillian claimed the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Olof Linn from summer cholera. The funeral was held at their home with interment at Christine cemetery officiated by Rev. J. O. Lundberg. The library flower show Saturday and Friday promises a garden exhibit in the lecture room with seeds from the club, prizes for Sweet Peas Nasturtiums and Pinks, and children’s displays of the flowers. Peter Myers and Henry Myers returned from Alford Iowa.

Roeland area sees residents decide on farming stay

Roseland residents report neighbors choosing farming as a path after a month on site. Chicago visitors Mr. and Mrs. Hoekkamp consider staying, while Mrs. Nick Dykema returns from Iowa with a cousin. Others plan farming leases and hogs are hauled to Danube due to high feed costs.

Robbery in Cokato Ends With Jailbreak Escape

Albert Pihlstrom, a Dassel Anchor compositor, was robbed in a Cokato saloon by two men who bought drinks and allegedly drugged him. He later found money and a watch missing. the thieves were arrested on postage stamp charges, released, then recaptured at Smith Lake, with part of the money recovered and the watch and ring still missing. They broke jail and remained at large.

Pioneer Hans Nilson dies after long illness in St Johns

Hans Nilson born March 4 1840 in Lange land Denmark died at his St Johns home after years of asthma and complications. He homesteaded near Willmar in 1872 and 1886 acquired railroad land at Sec 13 Willmar. Survived by wife Brita and ten children three died in infancy. Funeral next Friday at home and St Johns church.
