President McKinley Shot At Buffalo Exposition

President McKinley was shot while shaking hands at the Pan-American Exposition Temple of Music. The assailant, Leon Czolgosz, a Cleveland anarchist, claimed to act alone. McKinley, wounded in the chest and abdomen, was taken to police headquarters as crowds shouted for lynching.

President Shot In Buffalo Then Moved To Milburn Home

The president suffered two bullet wounds in Buffalo with one in the right breast and the other in the abdomen. He was taken by automobile ambulance to the exposition hospital and then moved to the Milburn residence. Mrs. McKinley showed courage and spoke little as she joined him at the bedside. News of the attempt prompted widespread messages from European monarchs and world leaders as the U S department of state prepared to publish bulletins on the crisis.
