Kandiyohi County Sunday School Convention Highlights

Kandiyohi County Association held a two day Sunday School convention with state workers Orchard and Hobart in attendance. Sessions covered home influences youth training and interdenominational organization aiming to reach every county and school with Christ, plus teacher training and cradle roll importance. Officers elected included Crawford Willner Winblad and Fouts with Fifteen dollars voted to state work.

Gravel train wreck near Grue leaves heavy losses

A Great Northern gravel train derailed about 7 oclock last Sunday near Grue after a calf wandered onto the track. The train at 40 mph ditched, four crew escaped injury, rails torn up, wrecking crew worked from 4 to 7 pm, 75 men clearing. Meanwhile, Miss Marie C Olson and Frank H Harris wed at Kandiyohi home of Mr and Mrs Burns with Rev Phillips officiating. Two horses killed by lightning strike damaged Mr Andrews barn in Rossville. his son was uninjured.

Willmar Girl Marries in Minneapolis Home

A marriage was solemnized in Minneapolis Wednesday evening. The bride Miss Emma Corl former resident of Willmar is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Corl. The groom Mr. Fred Ol- 200, a young man who is a employed an aphylaterer in Minneapolis. The wedding was a quiet affair at the groom's home. Willmar friends offer congratulations.

Gold Medal Contest at Willmar Street Fair

A gold medal contest tops the Willmar street fair program to be held in the Bonde ball on Friday night September 16 at 8 o clock Speakers drawn from Keodiyoh and Swift counties are scheduled to participate The full program will appear in the next issue Also noted Child Dies Suddenly The 10 months old daughter of Mr and Mrs Martin Miller died Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock after one day of illness The cause was summer complaint The funeral was Sunday afternoon at the Lutheran Free church with Rev Gynild officiating

Labor Day Observed In Willmar With Parade And Ball Game

Labor Day was celebrated in Willmar despite threatening skies. A brass band played near the Merchants hotel, then moved to the city park for speeches by Prof H. S. Hilleboe and others, followed by a Kandiyohi vs Willmar baseball game. Willmar won 3 2 in the final dramatic inning as Mason Spicer fouled then hit a decisive ball. Several municipal court cases were adjourned to Sept 14. Also mentions Clara Nybakke leaving for Minneapolis and St Louis, and Mrs. Anta Swenson traveling to Milbank for her brother Swanson’s funeral. Ole and Nels Johnson visiting Morra.

Eyes Test For Pupils In Minnesota Schools

The Minnesota Board of Health prepared eye examination instructions for public schools. Teachers will use a chart with letters of varying sizes to screen pupil vision at set distances. If reading is not possible, a notice to parents and further medical advice follow. The program aims to detect early eye issues and includes reporting blanks for pupil details. Death of Rivkin child from phosphorus poisoning

The 22 month old son of Mr and Mrs J J Rivkin living in the Larson building at Paoclle Avenue and Third Street died after consuming phosphorus from matches. He fell ill Sunday and died about two days later despite medical care. The funeral was held in Minneapolis under Jewish rites with interment at the O B A cemetery. The Rivkin family recently moved from Watkins and plans to open a second hand clothing store.
