Fireman Lars Vik Dead In threshing explosion near DeGraff

A threshing engine belonging to Peter G Thompson and John C Thompson of New London exploded early Saturday near DeGraff, killing fireman Lars Vik and injuring another worker. The engine was blown apart, with debris scattered and windows shattered. Vik died within half an hour, leaving a widow Beata Rierson and three children. Vik, born September 3, 1868 in Norway, had lived in Willmar and New London before settling on Lake Andrew shore. Funeral held at New London with Rev. Christian Swenson officiating. burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Autumn party and local visits in Lake Elizabeth area

Mrs S B Glader hosted a delightful autumn party for thirty guests with flowers and vegetables on Saturday. Others from town include Miss Lillie Boom starting school at Atwater, Des Moines visitors, and several residents visiting relatives in the past week. Local social word includes trips to Portland and Des Moines, with several families noted for Sunday gatherings and travel.

Henry Johnson leaves Willmar Co operative Mercantile store on Monday for Minneapolis to attend the State Fair. Harry Nelson, son of Mr and Mrs Swan Nelson, departs Friday for Sioux Falls at a local hospital to seek medical aid for several months.

Death of Willmar resident Iver J Berg at 60

Iver J Berg prominent Willmar resident died last Monday at age 60 from stomach cancer after a two week illness. Born in ValdtiA Norway on June 6 1851 he came to America in 1873 settling in Nebraska. He married Eli Larsen in 1875 who died, leaving two children. He married Misa Marit Strand in 1881 and eight children were born, five daughters Rena Anna Marie Sigrid Martha and one son Albert living. son Rudolph died three years ago. He leaves three brothers Rev Nels Berg Helge Berg and another in Norway and a sister Mrs B Johnson of Nebraska. Funeral from the Synod church at 8 today with home services at 1:30 officiated by Rev J N Anderson.

Musical Tomorrow Night at Presbyterian Church

A musical program will be presented next Thursday at 8 o'clock in the Presbyterian church with an admission of 10 cents. The program includes organ and piano solos, vocal numbers by Ladies' Sextette and soloists such as Lillie Norin and Emery Parnell, readings by John Styles and Mrs Craswell, an oration by Mrs Parnell, and a violin solo. seating and order reflect a community music event.

Indies of Bethel serve lunch at Street Fair day two

The Indies of the Swedish Lutheran Bethel church host a dinner in the church basement on the second day of the Street Fair. Menu includes roast beef potatoes gravy pickles mice pudding apple pie and coffee. Dinner 11 am to 3 pm 25 cents. After 3 pm lunch continues through the afternoon and evening. Visitors may enjoy a good meal. Celebrate Silver Anniversary Hoglunds held a silver wedding anniversary last Monday with dinner at 6 pm and a silver candlestick gift. Rev Peterson offered congratulations. Willmar Triumphs Over DeGraff In Season Finale

Willmar defeats DeGraff 2 to 1 in muddy last game of the season. DeGraff scores in the second on a walk and two hits. Willmar answers with a sixth inning run on a Johnson double after a Johnson walk and sacrifice. The eighth inning seals it when Mellie Johnson singles and a misplay by the left fielder allows Bob Johnson to score. M Johnson earned the win with 6 hits against, 10 strikeouts, and 5 walks. Radde took the loss with 5 hits, 5 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Willmar turned three double plays, DeGraff two.
