Rules for rural carriers restrict duties and conduct

The Washington Star reports strict rules for rural free delivery carriers. They may not carry liquids or alcohol, solicit money or gifts, or engage in any business on duty. They cannot carry passengers or assist in directories, canvassing, or sales. Carriage of merchandise is allowed only if it does not interfere with official duties and payments are made by patrons. Death of Simon Olstad Ends Promising Life in Ringville

Simon Olstad, born March 29 1880 in Guldbrandsdalen Norway, died August 29 at 22 years 5 months after eight months of consumption. He attended New London School and Metropolitan Business College Minneapolis, helped on a threshing crew, then worked at the New London Times office. He kept his illness private, was beloved by friends, and his funeral was held at Gausdahl church with Rev. Midthon presiding. He is survived by his parents and brothers Gustav and Seval.

Flower Show a Great Success at Library Venue

The Housekeepers Club held its second annual flower show in the library building last Thursday and Friday. It netted about $100 with total receipts of 130.58 to benefit library book purchases. Attractions included a Japanese booth, fortune telling, refreshments, and musical performances. Prizes honored best displays of asters, pansies, and verbenas among others. Out-of-town attendees from Atwater joined local organizers and judges. A Swedish Lutheran Young Peoples Society meeting is announced for Sept 12 at 8 PM in Bethel church basement.

Swedish Lutheran ladies host coffee at Bethel church

The Swedish Lutheran ladies will serve coffee and refreshments in the Bethel church basement tomorrow afternoon and evening, inviting all. Other local notes include school appointments in Deerwood and Chinook, ticket sales for the state fair, and community events at Willmar and Kerkhoven.

William Stansberry Funeral at M E Church

William Stansberry of this city died last Monday at seven. He was 69. He served in the Union army and moved from Kandiyohi to Howard Lake and then Willmar. Twelve children survive. funeral at M E church led by Rev. Jesse Underwood with interment at Howard Lake. Seminary notices and local updates follow.

Wreck Injures Freight Conductor Near Louisburg

C L Howe a freight conductor on a Watertown line mixed train was injured in a wreck about two miles west of Louisburg last Friday afternoon. He sustained a badly sprained shoulder and head injuries, was unconscious for hours, and is staying at home to recover. Three cars derailed due to a broken flange under a refrigerator car. fellow passenger F J Brenner of Minneapolis escaped with lighter injuries. The train slowed to 13 miles per hour, reducing potential harm.

Kloster named county commissioner for Fourth district

Jacob Kloster of Green Lake was appointed to succeed John Feig as county commissioner for the Fourth district. Feig resigns to run for county auditor. Kloster was the sole candidate. The appointing board included Wm. Riel, O. N. Grve, Charles Danielson, Glacer, and Nelson. Feig served as commissioner for eight years and as board chair during much of that time.
