The annual street fair in Kandiyohi county invites residents to attend a three day event September 26 27 and 28 1901. Prizes and premiums are highlighted with entries opening soon and rules detailing exhibitor eligibility, entry deadlines, and prize distribution.
Instructions for exhibitors specify entry deadlines, classes by breed, and rules. Owners must register entries in the owner’s name, with stock classified as chicks or fowls, weights not counted, and premiums awarded by an expert judge under American standards. Entries close 12 m on Thursday Sept 26, 1901, with minimum four hens and a rooster per peo contestant group.
A wreck west of town halted six grain cars after an axle failed on a freight car killing the track. The passenger southbound train waited five hours for the obstruction to clear. A temporary track was laid by wreckers and work continues around the clock to restore normal service. In Svea Sept 2 a large rural gathering marked the wedding of Amands Johnson to Oscar Linman. Rev Robert Larson performed the ceremony in an open air arch setting with about 200 guests. The couple, praised by friends, received a generous wedding supper and well wishes for the future.
A large gathering at the Jones residence in Fahlun on Sunday Aug 25 featured a gracious supper and dessert of ice cream and fruit. Attendees included Amy Wicklund Esther Freeman Albin Carlson Henry Parson Clara Esther Burdick Johnson and many others from Kandiyohi Fablan and nearby areas.
A telegram from Mrs. AL German reports that her son Miles German killed his wife and then died by his own hand. No further details are available. German, once in Willmar and a GN employee, recently resided in Corning New York. The note marks a grim family tragedy with limited information at press time.
