Old Settler John Swenson Dies After Long Life

John Swenson aged 63, a Swedish immigrant and early Meeker County settler, died after pneumonia while visiting his sons on a stock farm near St Johns. Born May 3 1833 near Gothenburg, he married Katharina Larson in 1861 and later Anna Swenson in 1872. He helped guard settlers during the 1862 Indian massacre, built a homestead on Long Lake, and was known for farming skill, stock breeding, and religious belief in the Nazarene. Funeral held near Long Lake with Rev. Hanson officiating.

Horrible accident in Mamre ends young life

An 18 month old girl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Lotven, was killed by an eastbound freight train near their Mamre farm. Conductor M J Rohan and engineer Charles Dalin attempted to stop the train but could not avert the tragedy. Coroner Harold Frost investigated. no inquest needed. Funeral held Thursday. community sympathy noted amid broader political commentary section.

Train timetable changes improve service on Willmar line

The Great Northern altered times for Winnipeg trains No 9 and 10 and night trains 41 and 42 between St Paul and Sioux City, with through service extended to Sioux City. No 41 and No 42 now run through from St Paul to Sioux City, while No 9/10 retain day schedules. changes shorten Willmar segment by about 40 minutes and add better overnight connections. The article notes improved equipment, through sleeping car, acetylene lighting, and expresses expectation that the adjustments will satisfy patrons and become permanent.

Willmar Will Open Wholesale Firm Johnson Bakery Buyout

The Willmar Jobbing and Manufacturing Company was incorporated with a $50,000 capital and $25,000 paid in, to buy Geo W Johnson's bakery and run a wholesale business. It will manufacture cookies, candies, and bread, operate from the Johnson building, and add a Middleby oven to reach 2,500 loaves daily. Geo W Johnson will manage and not reopen the Johnson Cash Supply House.

Milson Pelton Dies at 26 in Minnesota

Milton Albert Pelton, once of Willmar, died August 16 in McGregor Minnesota at age 26. Born June 29 1876 in Moody County South Dakota, he lived in Moody and Minnehaha counties before moving to Willmar in 1898 and to Aitkin County in 1899 where he resided until death. He leaves his mother and two brothers Tom of McGregor and J E of Willmar, all present at funeral. He rests in McGregor cemetery.

Swedish Lutheran church organ dedication program announced

The Sept 12 dedication program for the pipe organ at the Swedish Lutheran church is fully arranged with visiting talent including Prof. Lagerstrom, Rev. Borgstrom, Rev. Wilson, and J. T. Otos. Morning addresses by Rev. Bergstrom and Rev. Gustaf Peterson precede a dedication conducted by Rev. Almen, followed by an elaborate evening music program.
