Horse race schedule is announced with races on September 17, 18, and 19 at 2 pm. Exhibits include New London Sunbury Svea and Sunnyside clubs with 10 by 12 booths, State Farm booth, Women’s department arts, and a non-prize dairy cattle herd. Stone of Benson shows sixteen head en route. Motorcycle races and Children’s Day bicycle event noted. Proceeds benefit Bett esda Orphanage and Old People’s Homes. Premium lists mailed countywide.

European Situation sermon at First Presbyterian Church

Two Minnesotan Mothers Pass In A Week In New London
Mrs. Mary C. Lawson, long resident of New London, died last Saturday after recovering from a July stroke. Born January 2, 1872, she leaves five children and a sister, with funeral services held at Lebanon Lutheran church. Also mourning is Mrs. Jiergine FauChald, born January 14, 1839 in Norway, who died August 28 at Osnabrook after a stroke. She leaves a husband Martin N. FauChald, three children, ten grandchildren, and six sisters. Funeral was held at the Synod church with interment at Synod cemetery.

The Willmar school opened last Monday with good attendance and higher enrollment in the high school than last year. The board plans room improvements in the Central building to relieve crowding and to add heat and fire escapes. A Friday meeting will discuss continuous 48 week schooling and year-round vacations.

A well known New London resident Peter Eklund was struck by an autocycle near the pond south of the creamery while walking to church. He suffered a broken collarbone and other injuries, was treated at home, and the two young men on the motorcycle fled, leaving no identifiable details.

Indians on the move for Browns Valley church meeting
A large group of Yankton Sioux from the Santee Reservation passed through Willmar en route to a church conference near Browns Valley. About a hundred Indians of all ages arrived by train, with more arriving this morning to join the gathering hosted by Sisseton Reservation leaders, featuring Presbyterian and Congregational representation.

S C Hillman sells his mill and water power at Green Lake to W C Brown of Grand Forks. The deal includes the HU men residence near the mill. Hillman gains a nine half section of land near Manville North Dakota, about twelve miles from Grand Forks. The Green Lake Mill dam was first built in 1867 and later expanded.

Willmar ends a string of losses with a 7 to 3 victory over Hutchinson. Claude Rossman sparked the offense with a three base hit in the fourth inning driving in the tying run as Willmar poured in six runs that frame. Johnson pitched eight innings for Willmar, Westholm allowed seven runs in eight, and Buck and Helmberg combined on the mound for the win in a decisive midgame surge.

Foundation Laid for Willmar Tractor Factory Addition
Construction starts this week on a 13 by 56 foot cement one story addition to the Willmar Tractor Mfg factory at East Benson Ave. The old buildings will combine to provide ample floor space with the east shed for paint shop and store room and the new building for assembling. The foundry operates now producing castings for the Little Oak Tractor as part of the expanded plant. The complex will be connected under one roof. In nearby Lake Elizabeth August 31 services were held at the Baptist church by Dr. Forewell of Willmar. Hemming Nelson threshing now with a good machine and capable crew. Albert Blur adds a residence extension while plasterers work. John Seline visits from Willmar. Annie Hirbam returns from Grove City and works at Emil Himund’s. Fifty chickens vanished from Arthur Roesti’s coop Thursday night as a warning to keep dwellings secure. August Olson and family visited Fahlun Sunday.
