Awful Deed of Uncle Ends in Tragedy at Farm Home
The two year old Lowell Slagel was shot in his mother arms during a violent confrontation on Wimer’s farm in Spring Creek township. Peter Wimer, 72, uncle to the Slagels, is jailed for first degree murder after a struggle that left the child dead within an hour and the parents injured. The Slagels, former St. Johns township residents, had been preparing to move to Illinois. Wimer demanded possession of the kitchen and opened fire as the family resisted. Neighbors aided, Wimer was restrained and sent to LeRoy for custody.
