Public Health Monitor Sees Slow Epidemic Change

After a meeting of physicians and Hoard of Education members with Health Officer Rains, officials expect schools may open Monday but cite no firm change. Public meetings remain banned and church services are cancelled Sunday. About a hundred cases in the city, with the disease stationary and a recent decline in new reports. Rains urges strict isolation for initial cases, hand washing, masks for attendants, and warns against leaving doors open to spread. False registrant held in jail on perjury charge

A registrant who filed a January 4 1918 questionnaire and registered in June 1917 is jailed on charges of falsifying the questionnaire. A woman who aided the affidavit is to be brought from South Dakota to answer similar charges. Officials say several perjury cases by registrants have been uncovered and action is needed.

Willmar Soldier Chester Nelson Returns Home on Furlough

Private Chester L. Nelson, on a thirty day furlough from Lakewood Base Hospital New Jersey, comes home to Willmar after serving in France where a shell shattered his ammunition truck and broke his left arm. He volunteered after war declaration and is eager to recount his experiences, though he kept his injury secret from his parents. He expects to return to hospital around November 6. In other notes, concrete pipe wells and timber lots are advertised, and Agnes Larson resigns as a saleclady to join Palace Grocery.

Local draft calls set for November 11 departure

The draft board learned from the Adjutant General that recruits originally due to depart October 21 will now leave Monday November 11. It is understood two calls totaling 70 men for Camp Forrest in Georgia and 80 for Camp Cody in Texas will depart then, though official orders have not yet arrived.
