Baby News From Willmar Area Churches and People

A baby boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Weiss last week, and a baby girl welcomed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Whitefield last Saturday night. Confirmation services set for Nov. 10 at Eagle Lake church. Royal Neighbor Camp to hold a masquerade at its next meeting. Judge Powers passed through Willmar for Granite Falls after a special court in Litchfield. Community events include district meetings at Eagle Lake Lutheran Free church, Swedish Mission and Baptist church activities, local club meetings, and social gatherings. Local residents travel for work, travel, and family events, with several updates on health, employment, and recreation.

Svea News Briefs Include Funeral Attends and School Board Action

Mrs N O Nelson of Willmar visited Svea last week and early this week. Sveaiies attended the Backlund funeral in Tripolis last Sunday. F C Peterson of Atwater did telephone work in Svea earlier. Mrs M R Swenson served coffee to the S S just last Saturday. Martin Roud hosted a party for friends last Saturday. Buttermaker Lundquist enjoyed a hunting trip to Big Kandiyohi Lake early this week. The school board met and voted to install a steam heating plant in the school building. Tomorrow is the last day to pay real estate taxes. Kandiyohi Loses A Prominent Citizen Backlund Passes After Illness

Kandiyohi mourns Knut Ferdinand Backlund longtime village president and community leader. He fell ill Wednesday and died Thursday at age 48 after a sudden apoplexy. Funeral services were held with Swedish language sermons, large procession, and floral tributes. Backlund served as village president and school treasurer and owned a Kandiyohi meat market and cattle business. He leaves wife Emily Nelson and four children Gustaf Edmund Rudolph Anna Luella Sophia Roy Victor Sigurd Carl Adolph Wilhelm.

Willmar to Have a New Hospital in Near Future

Willmar prepares for a new hospital as Drs Petersen and Branton lease the Mantor residence at Becker Avenue and Fourth Street to convert it into a medical facility. Dr Branton from Atwater will join Dr Petersen to provide hospital care while changes proceed. Mrs Mantor is packing. Henry I Von Schenk, a well known resident, returns to county as his wife seeks a divorce for desertion and he must answer by November 3.

Death of Laura Kongslie in Wis. pneumonia ends life of local resident

Laura Kongslie of this city died at Somerset Wisconsin Tuesday morning from pneumonia after a four month stay seeking treatment from Dr Till. She was born February 14 1866 in Gulbrandsdalen Norway and came to America in 1879 living here since eleven years ago. Survived by eight siblings and her parents Ole Kongslie and now Pennock resident Mrs. A M Olson. Remains returned to Willmar last night. Funeral arrangements not yet made.

Chautauqua Board Elects Officers and Plans Assembly

The Green Lake Chautauqua board met at Willam S. Johnson’s New London office and filled a vacancy with D. N Tallman of Wilmar. Officers were elected, Supt. P. C. Tanning of Willmar will manage programs, and the group hopes to raise funds for a permanent auditorium. The members later dined with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and departed in Tallman’s car. Married at Synod Parsonage in New London Albert Ahlberg and Christine Larson wed with Rev. J. N. Andersen officiating, the groom from Lake Andrew and the bride daughter of Mrs. Lars Olson of Califax. Remains Laid to Rest Funeral of Mrs Martin Olson

Funeral held Sunday afternoon at the Norwegian Lutheran Free Church with a large gathering. Rev KE Gynild delivered an impressive sermon from 2 Timothy 2:19, 2nd verse, followed by Rev Michaelson using Psalm 26. A quartet sang, many floral tributes were given, and pallbearers included J C Strand, T O Gilbert, Saml Going, Saml Rasmusson, N J Peterson, and Nels Balke.
