Ralph W. Stanford Heads Red Cross Kandiyohi Chapter

The Kandiyohi County Chapter of the American Red Cross elected R. W. Stanford as head for the coming year. Mrs. Lena Sandbo was named vice chairman, Mrs. J. Albert Nelson secretary, and Miss Hazel V. Nelson treasurer. Additional executive members include Mrs. J. D. Parnell, Mrs. G. B. Qvale, and Mr. P. C. Peterson.

Stansberry Family Plans Coast Trip and Home Build

Mr and Mrs Stansberry will travel from Willmar to Seattle to visit their son Hay for a couple of weeks, then proceed to San Diego to stay until March 1. They intend to return to Willmar and begin building a new home here next spring.

Gospel Teams Give Moral Program at Sweilih Baptist Church

Gospel Teams of the city will present a program at Sweilih Baptist Church next Tuesday evening. The event features musical selections and short talks by local talent. The program begins at 1:45. All are invited to attend.

Fall from muskrat house injures surveyor near Priam

H E Canfield of Butterfield fell from a muskrat house while assisting County Surveyor J A Rowat near Priam. He was rushed to the Rest Hospital after cramps and spasms followed in cold water. His condition was serious yet improving. Also notes marriage licenses and Red Cross tag day details.

Plans for an Athletic Field at County Fair Grounds

The Willmar County Fair board approved adding an athletic field in front of the new grandstand at the county fair grounds. Filling will come from Machinery Hill and the south side of the track. The surplus treasury will not fund grading. roads and waterworks must be financed from other needs. The field will be funded by subscriptions and a portion of athletic receipts. The plan aims to attract more summer gatherings and benefit Central Minnesota. Willmar road crews will grade the grounds this week, funds permitting. Board members present included Wicklund, Bergquist, Bingham, Thompson, Wellin, Berknesa, Johnson, and Lawson.

Will Open Insurance Offices on Fifth Street

L. E. Gilbert of Minneapolis who has the general agency of the Northern State Life Insurance Company of Linnaeus will open insurance offices in the Nelson-Hershey Block on Fifth Street early next week. He will occupy rooms across from Prof. Swallin's studio above Nelson jewelry store. The Gilbert Insurance Agency will serve a district of twelve counties with many agents operating from the local headquarters. Harness Stolen. Thieves struck again last Sunday in Dovre township taking two sets of new harness from Albin Ting on the old Shedin place Long Lake Church. The Welcome Home program for soldier boys, postponed by storm, will be held Thursday evening Nov 6. Ladies Aid to be hosted by Mrs Jalmar Larson in the annex to the church Thursday Nov 8 in the afternoon. Everyone welcome. Sheriff Peter Honde took John Wright to Stillwater last Monday morning to begin his term at the State penitentiary.

New Location for the Magnet Inn on Fifth Street

David and Hjalmar Peterson bought the Magnet Inn property from Gratz and Wellin for 10000 dollars. The two 90 foot front lots hold a former music store now to be remodeled into a modern restaurant and cafe with an added upstairs dwelling. Work to begin in spring while the Pacific avenue location closes this week and Savoy takes over after November 1. The Petersons will pause restaurant operations during winter until the Fifth Street opening.

Red Cross Drive For Memberships Begins In County

Norman H Tallakson county chairman announces a Red Cross drive from November 2 to Armistice Day November 11 with precinct chairs named across towns including Atwater Kandiyohi New London and Willmar. City ward chairs for Willmar listed and a tag day is planned November 8 to issue buttons while the peace program highlights public health nursing first aid home care and junior membership.

Memorable Willmar Residents Die in Swift Grief Tides

Obituary notices honor Mrs. Mary Brem an early Willmar resident who ran a local restaurant with her husband until his death in 1901 and passed away after two weeks of illness. Survived by son Herman Brem and daughters Bertha Brem and Mrs. John C. Freese, with brothers and sisters listed. Funeral held at 3 p.m. with Rev. F. H. Oehler officiating and a quartet singing. Also noted is the death of Mrs. Nils Olson of Kandiyohi County aged 83 years. She was born in Sweden in 1836, married Nils Olson in 1866, lived on homestead in Whitefield, moved to Willmar in 1902, and was a Bethel church member. Funeral details given.

American Legion program announced for November 12

The American Legion will hold a meeting at Odd Fellows Hall on Wednesday evening November 12 with Judge J Gilbert delivering a speech and several musical sessions. A business session precedes and a social hour follows. Refreshments will be served 3 to 7 PM for 15 cents. Members urged to join before Charter Membership closes on Armistice Day. local post near 200 members. The national convention will be in Minneapolis November 10 to 12, with General Foch expected to head the parade.
